The Undeniable Return: Why Ekiti North Constituency II Needs Hon. Ibrahim Kunle Olarewaju.

The Undeniable Return: Why Ekiti North Constituency II Needs Hon. Ibrahim Kunle Olarewaju.

The air in Ekiti North Federal Constituency II (comprising Ido/Osi, Moba, and Ilejemeje Local Governments) is thick with nostalgia and a fervent desire for the return of a true servant-leader: Hon. Ibrahim Kunle Olarewaju (IBO). Though a manipulation of the political process led to his momentary exit from the House of Representatives after the 2023 election, his service trajectory and immediate elevation by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu are compelling testimonies to a character that remains indispensable to his people.

Hon. Ibrahim Kunle Olarewaju is widely recognized not just as a politician, but as a responsible father, a principled public servant, and a committed philanthropist. His good character is evident in his inclusive approach to politics and his unwavering commitment to his constituents.
He is A Responsible Father and Role Model: IBO understands that leadership begins at home. His dedication to his family mirrors his commitment to the collective welfare of the community, setting a strong moral and ethical standard for the youth in the constituency.
He is A Quintessential Philanthropist: Throughout his tenure and even now, his impact has transcended legislative duties. He has actively engaged in extensive empowerment programmes, including the provision of 200 Brand New Laptops and essential training for youths and teachers in Ekiti State, demonstrating a deep-seated belief in human capital development and the "Renewed Hope" agenda.

Hon. Olarewaju's solid academic background forms the bedrock of his pragmatic approach to governance. As an accomplished lawyer (Barr.), he brings a meticulous, constitutional, and law-abiding perspective to every challenge.
During his time representing the constituency in the 9th National Assembly, he distinguished himself as a lawmaker with substance, serving meritoriously as the Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Agricultural Production and Services. Notably, he ranked high among Ekiti State's federal lawmakers in terms of legislative productivity, sponsoring a significant number of bills. This proven capacity to contribute meaningfully to lawmaking is precisely what Ekiti North II is missing.

Justifying His Appointment
The most powerful justification for Hon. Olarewaju’s return lies in the immediate recognition of his value by the highest office in the land. Following the 2023 election, and despite the political maneuvering that led to his loss, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu immediately appointed him as the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters.
This swift appointment was not a consolation prize; it was a strategic move rooted in necessity and trust. As noted by the Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, the appointment recognized IBO's "steadfastness, political maturity and high level integrity," and the President’s need for an experienced, decent, and pragmatic politician to serve as the critical liaison between the Presidency and the House of Representatives. This immediate elevation confirms that the loss in the constituency was a political setback, not a repudiation of his competence or character. The President knows his value; the constituency should reclaim it.

The fact remains: Hon. Ibrahim Kunle Olarewaju has established a track record of performance, accessibility, and developmental politics that resonates deeply with the people of Ido/Osi, Moba, and Ilejemeje. The missing link in the current representation is the dedicated and effective leadership that he provides.
IBO is A Champion of Empowerment: His consistent empowerment drives, even while serving in a federal appointment, prove that his connection to the grassroots is unwavering.
IBO is A Bridge to the Presidency: His current role has positioned him closer to the apex of power, giving him unparalleled access and influence to attract Federal projects and opportunities back to the constituency, a key advantage Ekiti North II should not forfeit.

Hon. Ibrahim Kunle Olarewaju’s return to the House of Representatives is not merely a political ambition; it is the logical next step for a constituency that deserves the very best of representation. It is time for the people to harness his high-level experience, political sagacity, and presidential trust to secure a brighter future.

Leadership Alert: Oluwatuyi Advocates Stronger Director–Subordinate Relations for Better Outcome.
By Asubiojo G.O

The game-changing administrative and political leadership of Hon. Oluwatuyi Oluwagbenga, popularly known as Chenco, has reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive governance and institutional growth by urging Directors in Irepodun Ifelodun Local Government, Igede-Ekiti, to foster more collaborative relationships with their deputies and subordinates. This directive emphasizes a culture of engagement, capacity building, and shared responsibility aimed at improving efficiency and effectiveness in public service delivery.

Hon. Oluwatuyi delivered this charge during a maiden interactive session held on Wednesday with Directors and Deputy Directors across all departments. The Chairman advised leaders to exhibit trust, professional sincerity, and constructive communication by involving their deputies and sectional heads in carrying out official duties. According to him, effective leadership is not anchored in secrecy or hierarchical distance, but in mentorship, shared responsibility, and humility in leadership conduct.

The Chairman also cautioned against the destructive tendencies of gossip, unhealthy rivalry, and divisive communication that undermine productivity. He stressed that punctuality and disciplined work culture remain non-negotiable expectations, adding that he maintains an open door for meaningful interaction but does not entertain clandestine conversations or personal grievances that do not align with official purpose. He further warned against unhelpful comparisons between Irepodun Ifelodun and other local government councils, as each operates under unique administrative realities.

Hon. Oluwatuyi emphasized the need for Directors to fully utilize their deputies by empowering them to attend meetings, represent them when required, and gain hands-on knowledge of civil service protocols for improved institutional continuity and succession capability.

The Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Dr. Tunji Sule, echoed this position, urging Directors to actively mentor their deputies and foster uprightness in official duties. He stressed that allowing deputies to step in at engagements prepares them for higher responsibility and sharpens their administrative reasoning.

In the same vein, the Head of Local Administration (HLA), Mrs. Akinbobola Deborah-B, called for a balanced leadership approach. She advised Directors not to be authoritarian or excessively demanding, while equally charging deputies to remain loyal, dedicated, and professionally committed. She expressed gratitude to the Chairman, Vice Chairman, and Secretary for their consistent support on matters of staff welfare.

Speaking on behalf of the Directors, Messrs. Asubiojo, Faluyi Joseph, and Olanrewaju appreciated the Chairman for facilitating an open and forward-thinking dialogue aimed at enhancing departmental performance. They encouraged deputies to demonstrate diligence and proactiveness in their roles.

In response, the deputies  who spoke through Messrs::: Atobaje, Omole, Ogunjobi victor , Ajayi Kemisola and Engineer Dipo Bamisile ,collectively expressed appreciation for the opportunity to participate in the engagement. They pledged continued loyalty, commitment to official assignments, and respect for administrative superiors and political leadership. They however appealed for continued improvements in staff welfare and conditions of service.

The engagement concluded on a forward-looking and uplifting note, with all participants united in their resolve to deepen collaboration, strengthen internal capacity, and sustain a culture of professional synergy. With renewed administrative energy and strengthened interpersonal ties, Irepodun Ifelodun Local Government appears set for an era of improved productivity, harmonious teamwork, and enhanced service delivery to the benefit of the communities it serves.

Olarewaju Hails President Tinubu on Gen. Musa’s Nomination as Defence Minister.

Olarewaju Hails President Tinubu on Gen. Musa’s Nomination as Defence Minister.

Former House of Representatives member for Ekiti North Federal Constituency 2 and Senior Special Assistant on National Assembly Matters, Hon. Ibraheem Kunle Olarewaju, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for nominating General Christopher Gwabin Musa as Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence.

In a statement, Olarewaju described the nomination as a “timely and strategic decision” that underscores the President’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s defence architecture and addressing the country’s ongoing security challenges. He said the appointment reflects a careful consideration of the nation’s current security landscape and the need for experienced leadership at the helm of the Ministry of Defence.

“General Musa is a seasoned military officer with a proven track record of professionalism, discipline, and strategic foresight. His leadership will undoubtedly bolster our national security efforts and contribute significantly to protecting Nigeria’s sovereignty,” Olarewaju said.

The former lawmaker expressed optimism that General Musa’s wealth of experience in the armed forces would enable him to implement robust strategies to curb insecurity across the country. He highlighted that the nominee’s deep understanding of military operations, coupled with his strategic acumen, makes him particularly suited to navigate the complexities of modern security challenges.

Olarewaju also appealed to the Senate to expedite the confirmation process, stressing that swift approval would allow General Musa to assume office without delay and commence critical interventions in the security sector. He emphasized that the nation requires competent and proactive leadership to tackle the persistent threats to peace and stability, especially in regions affected by insurgency, banditry, and other criminal activities.

The lawmaker further commended President Tinubu for prioritizing merit and competence in the selection of key government officials. According to Olarewaju, appointing leaders with proven expertise sends a strong message of commitment to effective governance and national development.

President Tinubu had, in a letter to the Senate, formally forwarded General Musa’s nomination as the successor to Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, who resigned earlier this week. The nomination comes at a crucial time when the country is grappling with multifaceted security challenges that require decisive leadership and innovative strategies.

His military background and prior leadership roles position him to coordinate effectively with various security agencies, streamline defence policies, and enhance operational efficiency within the Ministry of Defence.

Olarewaju concluded by reiterating his full support for the nomination and expressed hope that General Musa’s tenure would mark a new era of professionalism, accountability, and results-driven leadership in Nigeria’s defence sector.

Governor Oyebanji: Bridging Ekiti’s Development Gaps Through Revolutionary Fiscal Reforms.

Governor Oyebanji: Bridging Ekiti’s Development Gaps Through Revolutionary Fiscal Reforms.
By HC Ade

Across the world, economic development does not occur by accident people make it happen. Citizens make it happen by electing visionary leaders with the capacity to harness and prioritize both natural and human resources toward collective prosperity. In Ekiti State, the last three years have reflected this truth, with Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s administration recording remarkable progress across multiple sectors.

Ekiti’s economic indicators tell a compelling story. The state’s GDP has grown from ₦2.4 trillion in 2019 to ₦4.6 trillion in 2023 an impressive 90% increase. Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) has also surged from ₦650–₦700 million monthly in 2022 to over ₦2 billion monthly as of the third quarter of 2025. This growth is driven by institutional reorganization, digital transformation, and an increasingly conducive business environment. Unsurprisingly, Ekiti topped the 2023 Annual Growth Rate Ranking with a 75% jump in IGR from ₦17.03 billion in 2022 to over ₦35 billion in 2025.

Agriculture remains the nucleus of the state’s economic transformation. Through strategic investments such as the Bring Back Youth into Agriculture scheme, the Agricultural Processing Zone, and revived farm settlements, the sector continues to expand. As of Q3 2025, trade and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) contributed over 37% to the state’s GDP. The Knowledge Economy Project alone secured $80 million in funding from the African Development Bank, strengthening its implementation.

Discipline and strict adherence to fiscal policies have served as the administration’s catalytic strategy. These policies ranging from revenue generation reforms to expenditure management have addressed development deficits through deliberate measures such as:

●Attractive tax incentives

●Tax administration reforms

●Improved non-tax revenue

●Budget prioritization

●Public-Private Partnerships

●Conditional grants from federal and international bodies

●Promotion of Special Economic Zones (SEZs)

●Intensified infrastructure upgrades

These efforts collectively support accessible education, quality healthcare, job creation, and economic empowerment.

On October 10th, the Governor presented the 2026 Budget of Impactful Governance to the State House of Assembly. The estimated ₦415.57 billion budget allocates ₦221.87 billion (53%) to recurrent expenditure and ₦193.70 billion (46%) to capital expenditure an 11% increase over the approved 2025 budget. This budget prioritizes the completion of all ongoing infrastructural projects across the state.

A broad analysis of Ekiti’s developmental trajectory considering factors such as Ease of Doing Business, IGR, GDP, Gross State Product (GSP), Per Capita Income (PCI), and Poverty Ratio (PR) reveals consistent upward movement. These gains stem from enhanced security, political stability, strengthened agricultural output, improved infrastructure, and disciplined fiscal management.

With the 2026 budget focusing on agriculture, value-chain expansion, and wealth creation, the administration is reinforcing its Shared Prosperity agenda and aligning with the State Development Plan (2021–2050), the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (2026–2028), and the Six Pillars of Governance.

IGR continues to rise steadily: ₦17.03 billion in 2022, ₦29.82 billion in 2023 (75% growth), and ₦35.21 billion in 2024 ranking Ekiti 21st nationally. This performance reflects rising public trust, expanded tax nets, and increased enrollment in state-owned tertiary institutions.

Agriculture and food security remain the administration’s strongest interventions. The governor’s reforms have deliberately separated agricultural development from food security to strengthen both. Initiatives include:

●Revived farm settlements and tractorization

●The Bring Back Youth into Agriculture scheme

●Cluster farming models

●Subsidized seeds and agrochemicals

●Mechanized farming expansion

●Poultry and livestock support schemes

●Ilu Eye Agro-Trading to stabilize food prices

●Ounje Ekiti marketplace platforms

●Establishment of aggregation centers

These programs operate through a four-layer pyramid:
1. Small-holder farmers

2. Cooperative and cluster farmers

3. Individual large-scale farmers

4. Agribusiness companies across value chains

With the upcoming implementation of the 2025 Tax Reform Act, strengthened revenue systems, and deepened agricultural investment, Ekiti’s fiscal policies are clearly delivering transformative results.

Under Governor Oyebanji, Ekiti has become a reference point among Nigerian states its GDP now surpassing that of some West African nations. The state’s enhanced business environment, infrastructural expansion, and economic reforms stand as testament to visionary, deliberate, and impactful governance.

EKSG allays fear over insecurity in neighbouring states, says gov’t on top of security situation.

EKSG allays fear over insecurity in neighbouring states, says gov’t on top of security situation.

Ekiti State Government has urged residents of the State to go about their lawful businesses without any fear of harassment or intimidation as government is in full control of security situation in the state.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, Brig-Gen. Ebenezer Ogundana (Rtd.) made this assertion in Ado-Ekiti on Monday during the quarterly security meeting involving heads of security agencies and chairmen of the 16 local government councils and 22 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), assured residents not to panic over reports of activities of banditry in neighbouring states, stressing that Governor Biodun Oyebanji is on top of the security situation in the state.

General Ogundana affirmed that Ekiti State remains the safest state in the country based on the various measures government has put in place, especially at all the border towns to provide adequate safety for residents.

He commended residents of the state for providing necessary intelligence needed by various security outfits. This, he said, has made the state surmount all security challenges.

He also assured residents that Ekiti borders are well-secured with military and police presence against any incursion adding that the State's intelligence and surveillance network remained strong and well-coordinated.

“We've been having some unusual activities along the states bordering with Ekiti, particularly Kogi and Kwara states and these incidents have been sending unholy signals to the state to the extent that it is creating panic among the people and then we met with Mr Governor  and he directed that we should meet with all the stakeholders, so we met with traditional rulers and other stakeholders.

“Today, we are meeting the local government chairmen to be able to listen to them and ascertain what their plans are and ,  so that we can work out plans on how to ensure that we have security in all our local governments particularly the areas that are close to these turbulent states.
`
“At the same time we want to make sure that all of them are on the same page and to inform the people that the kind of panic that have been created is not true. That is the essence now, so when we finish with them they will go back home and realign their people and tell them to go about their businesses without fear.

“We want our people to be very vigilant and pay attention to small details. When they hear anything they should not cover it up. They are not in the position to assess whether that information is true or not. Let them send the information to the security agencies closer to them so that we'll be able to make an adequate response.

“We have sufficient resources at our disposal to determine whether information is true or not.

“Like what is happening in Kogi and Kwara State now, we discovered that all the farmers, the herders, the community, everybody is affected now. Everybody is running up and down there, so, we don't want that thing to escalate to us in the Ekiti state, that's why we are making all the necessary efforts to put everybody on the same page so that at least we can move ahead. The newly designated ShaSha Market in Igede–Ekiti was officially commissioned on Monday by the Executive Chairman of Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government, Honourable Oluwatuyi Oluwagbenga. The commissioning marks a key milestone in improving local commerce and strengthening the economic base of the community.

During the event, the Chairman expressed appreciation to the Kabiyesi and traditional chiefs for their unwavering support. He encouraged residents to make consistent use of the market, maintain a tidy and peaceful trade environment, and avoid conflicts. He specifically urged members of the Hausa trading community to handle financial obligations diligently, care for infrastructure, and cooperate with local government officers for the long-term sustainability of the market.

The market is expected to boost local economic activity, creating opportunities for traders, encouraging micro–entrepreneurship, and attracting buyers from surrounding areas.

It will also serve as a social and cultural bridge, promoting unity and healthy interactions between diverse communities, especially between Yoruba and Hausa residents.

It is seen as a practical engine for grassroots economic development and a symbol of shared community progress.

CABINET RECONSTITUTION: OYEBANJI YIELDS TO APC STAKEHOLDERS, RETURNS FORMER COMMISSIONERS TO ASSEMBLY FOR SCREENING.

CABINET RECONSTITUTION: OYEBANJI YIELDS TO APC STAKEHOLDERS, RETURNS FORMER COMMISSIONERS TO ASSEMBLY FOR SCREENING.

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has forwarded a list of commissioner-nominees to the State House of Assembly for screening, signalling the commencement of moves to reconstitute his cabinet.

The nominees are drawn largely from members of the previous State Executive Council dissolved by the Governor on August 10, 2025.

The decision to re-present the former commissioners, it was gathered, followed a resolution reached between the Governor, the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and other critical stakeholders in the state. Party leaders were said to have impressed on the Governor the need to retain the team in the interest of stability and unity within the APC ahead of the June 20, 2026 governorship election.

Sources within the party said stakeholders believed injecting new commissioners barely seven months to the election could be counter-productive and may create avoidable political tension.

It was also recalled that in 2023, the leadership of the APC, traditional institutions across towns and communities, and other stakeholders jointly worked with the screening committee set up by Governor Oyebanji to select and nominate commissioners and other appointees.

At the inception of his administration, Oyebanji had emphasized that the party hierarchy and community leaders would play central roles in the appointment process to ensure accountability and broaden ownership of government.

The new development was contained in a statement by the Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, Olayinka Oyebode, on Monday.
