Ekiti State Forestry Commission Donates Trees to Arboretum Honoring First African Forestry Professor.

In a collaborative effort, the Ekiti State Forestry Commission, Ekiti State University (EKSU), and the Green to Abundant Development and Empowerment Foundation (GADEF) have established an Arboretum (tree plantation) to honor the late Professor Samuel Kolade Adeyoju, the first Professor of Forestry in Africa.

The Arboretum, located at EKSU and Ijan Ekiti, was officially inaugurated on Thursday. Professor Adeyoju, who passed away a few months ago at the age of 88, was a highly respected figure in the field of forestry in Nigeria.

Mr. Adekunle Sunday, the Executive Secretary of the Ekiti State Forestry Commission, stated that the Arboretum will serve as a teaching and international research center for students and tourists. He revealed that the Ekiti State government donated all the trees planted in Ijan Ekiti to honor the legacy of Professor Adeyoju, who had made significant contributions to the development of forestry in the state.

"I appreciate the Forestry Association of Nigeria, EKSU management, and GADEF who donated trees to be planted at EKSU for their support to immortalize our father and ICON who had positively impacted lives," Adekunle said. "We shall maintain the Arboretum and make it a global event."

The event was organized by the Department of Forest Resources and Wildlife Management at EKSU, in collaboration with the Ekiti State Forestry Commission, GADEF, and the Forestry Association of Nigeria (FAN).

During the event, speakers praised Professor Adeyoju's contributions to the forestry sector, his mentorship of many, and his diligence and honor. The Ijan community and the Adeyoju family were urged to maintain the plantation to ensure the preservation of the trees.

The Arboretum is expected to host diverse tree species, not only for teaching and research purposes but also as a global heritage center for seedling collection.

Biodun Oyebanji: The Bridge Builder, Leader with Steeze.

Biodun Oyebanji: The Bridge Builder, Leader with Steeze.

In the beautiful state of Ekiti, where tradition and progress intertwine, Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji - BAO has emerged as a shining example of leadership, blending substance and style.

A Progressive Governor so properly called, Oyebanji has taken strides that not only uplift the state but also unify its diverse interests and political groups, demonstrating that governance is about inclusion, peace, and prosperity for all.

Governor Oyebanji’s leadership style can best be described as that of a Bridge Builder. In an era where political divisions are often deep, Oyebanji has gone beyond the conventional approach, opening doors to collaboration and dialogue. His administration has been one of inclusion, inviting not only members of his party but also opposition leaders and former governors to the table. From Chief Segun Oni to Ayodele Fayose, he has extended olive branches across political lines, seeking common ground for the benefit of Ekiti. This remarkable move to reconcile past and present leaders in the state demonstrates his unwavering commitment to unity, refusing to let political affiliation cloud his vision for a prosperous Ekiti.

The Governor is often described as a People's BAO  - a leader who governs with the interests of every citizen at heart. His human capital development initiatives are groundbreaking, creating opportunities for youth empowerment, skill acquisition, and employment. Whether through agricultural programs, vocational training, or entrepreneurship support, Oyebanji has made it clear that his administration is about lifting people out of poverty and giving them the tools to succeed. His government has also invested heavily in the health sector, improving healthcare delivery with new facilities and modern equipment, and ensuring that Ekiti’s people have access to quality medical services.

Education, a cornerstone of development, has not been left out. Oyebanji has revitalized schools across the state, providing the necessary infrastructure and learning materials, while also improving teachers' welfare. His dedication to human capital and education demonstrates that he views Ekiti's people as the true wealth of the state, deserving of investment and care.

When it comes to infrastructure, Oyebanji’s efforts speak volumes. The progressive development of roads networks across Ekiti ensures that economic activities thrive and that no community is left behind. He has transformed the state's infrastructure landscape, connecting rural areas to urban centers and boosting trade, tourism, and local industries.

But beyond his physical achievements lies his unique quality as a Unifier. Oyebanji is a leader who knows that peace is the foundation of progress. His administration has avoided political witch hunts, encouraging dialogue over discord. His decision to bring all leaders and former governors into a reconciliatory fold, regardless of party affiliation, signals that Ekiti's future is a shared responsibility. This is a man who doesn't fight for personal or political gain but seeks to govern in the spirit of collaboration.

Oyebanji’s sense of social justice is equally commendable. His administration has fought for fairness, addressing the needs of the marginalized, ensuring that women and the disabled have a seat at the table in decision-making processes. Welfare programs under his leadership have provided support to the elderly, the poor, and other vulnerable groups, offering hope to all.

All of these accomplishments reflect the cool, calm, and collected nature of Oyebanji. Often referred to as a cool leader with Steeze, his leadership style is marked by humility and finesse. He doesn’t shout or grandstand but governs with quiet efficiency, allowing his work to speak for itself. Whether he's brokering peace with political rivals or cutting the ribbon on a new hospital, Oyebanji does it all with a sense of purpose and grace, earning him admiration from across the political spectrum.

In every way, Governor Biodun Oyebanji exemplifies the modern-day Progressive Governor. He has proven that a leader can be both effective and inclusive, both visionary and down-to-earth. In Ekiti, he has built not just roads and bridges of stone but bridges of trust and unity, fostering a spirit of collective responsibility. This is the mark of a leader who understands that governance is not a solo endeavor but a shared journey—one that is taking Ekiti to greater heights.
