HC Youth Development Champions Youth Inclusion as Ekiti YAN Inaugurates Fourth Assembly — Lauds Governor Oyebanji’s Model of Youth-Driven Governance
By Olamide Akinwumi.

The Youth Assembly of Nigeria (YAN), Ekiti State Chapter, on Tuesday inaugurated the Fourth Assembly in a colourful ceremony that brought together youth leaders, government officials, and advocates of inclusive governance.

The event, held at G-Bos Hotel in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, witnessed the active participation of the Honourable Commissioner for Youth Development, represented by Ambassador Olu-Ajayi Maxwell, the Special Assistant to Governor Biodun Oyebanji on Youth Development.

Delivering a keynote address on behalf of the Commissioner, Ambassador Olu-Ajayi spoke on the topic, "Bridging the Gap: Youth Leadership and Good Governance." He emphasized the critical need for meaningful youth participation in governance, noting that young people are not just the leaders of tomorrow but change-makers of today.

“Youth are the live current of any nation’s development,” he said. “Their participation is not only beneficial but necessary. The strength of leadership lies not in age, but in productivity, emotional intelligence, and ethical responsibility.”

Representing the Honourable Commissioner, Olu-Ajayi hailed Governor Biodun Oyebanji as a shining example of youth-inclusive leadership. He highlighted the governor’s early start in public service, recalling how Oyebanji served as the Secretary of the committee that midwifed the creation of Ekiti State, and now stands as a beacon of mentorship and participatory governance.

“Governor Oyebanji has built a bridge between generations. He exemplifies servant leadership and unwavering commitment to youth empowerment,” he noted.

He further outlined several groundbreaking initiatives rolled out by the Oyebanji-led administration to empower the youth across Ekiti State:
●Bring Back Youths to Agriculture Initiative (2,500+ beneficiaries)

●Ekiti Broiler Production Scheme (125 youths) and Youths in Horticulture (50 youths)

●Provision of buses for youth mobility and 2,500 hectares of land cleared for farming

●Renovation of farm dormitories in Eporo, Ikere, Oke Ako, Iyemero, Aramoko, and Erifun

●Adire Hub (1,000+ youth and women trained in textile entrepreneurship)

●Ekiti State Skill Academy (150 youths enrolled)

●Training of over 1,000 unemployed graduates for self-reliance

●SMEDAN Partnership to train 5,000 youths in business management

●Launch of the Youth Resource Center and sponsorship of youth to international leadership conferences

●Youth employment across state and federal civil service

●Continuous subvention support to youth organizations since 2024

“These are not tokenistic efforts,” he stressed. “They are deliberate and structured to make youth active participants in the governance process, not just beneficiaries.”

Olu-Ajayi also praised Governor Oyebanji’s open-door policy, citing initiatives like “Youth, Let’s Talk With BAO” and regular town hall engagements as platforms that have strengthened government-youth relations.

Quoting the governor, he said: “Leadership is not about the position you hold, but the service you render. We must listen to the voices of the youth; they have valuable insights that can shape our policies for the better.”

He further encouraged young people to embrace leadership development and mentorship, pointing to historical examples such as General Yakubu Gowon, who led Nigeria at age 32, as proof that age is not a limitation to impact.

The Honourable Commissioner’s representative concluded by urging stakeholders to invest in youth as a legacy of transformation. “A wise leader empowers the next generation. When we invest time and energy in young people, we create a future driven by motivation, purpose, and excellence.”

Other dignitaries at the event included Mr. Mike Folorunsho, Technical Assistant to the Governor on Youth Inclusion; Hon. Bosun Osaloni, Executive Chairman, Ado Local Government; Mr. Alex Oyeyemi, representing Erelu Kemi Elebute; Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun, Commissioner for Information, represented by Asiwaju Femi Kasali; Hon. Gold Adedayo, Commissioner for Youth Development; Rt. Hon. Ayo Ojo, Technical Assistant on Youth Inclusion; and several other youth stakeholders.

The inauguration was seen as a major milestone in consolidating youth participation in Ekiti State’s political, economic, and developmental affairs under the inclusive leadership of Governor Oyebanji.

The Senator representing Ekiti South Senatorial District, Yemi Adaramodu, on Sunday visited the Adunogbon community in Ikere Ekiti, where he announced the completion of a promised bridge project and assured residents of more infrastructural interventions.

Adaramodu, who was received with warmth, songs, and prayers by elated residents, expressed gratitude to the people for their consistent support. The senator was also hosted by the community chairman, Professor Ajayi, during the visit.

Recounting his first visit to the community prior to the 2023 general elections, Adaramodu said the people had defied heavy rainfall to pray for his electoral victory, adding that he vowed then to return with impactful development if elected.

“I will never forget how you all stood in the rain to support me. That gesture alone was a covenant, and I’m glad to return with fulfilled promises,” he said.

A major highlight of the visit was the announcement of the completion of the long-awaited bridge linking the community—one of the projects he pledged during his campaign. He further disclosed that rehabilitation of the road leading to Adunogbon would commence within a week.

“As your representative, I remain committed to improving infrastructure and enhancing the living conditions of all constituents in Ekiti South,” Adaramodu stated.

The senator also promised to provide a new electricity transformer for the community and assured that the ongoing installation of solar-powered streetlights would be completed by May.

On the challenges of electricity supply in parts of Ikere Ekiti, Adaramodu acknowledged the fault affecting a 500KVA transformer previously supplied to Oke Ikere. He said efforts were already in motion to resolve the issue and restore regular power supply to the area.

He commended the residents of Adunogbon for their unwavering support and reaffirmed his commitment to quality representation and sustainable development.

“Without you, I wouldn’t be a senator today,” he declared. “Your support brought me here, and I remain devoted to serving you with sincerity and action.”

OYEBANJI EXPRESSES CONDOLENCES ON EX-GOV OLUNLOYO’S PASSING.

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, has expressed condolences to the Government and people of Oyo State as well as the Olunloyo family on the passing of a former Governor of old Oyo State, Dr Victor Omololu Olunloyo.

Dr Olunloyo who died on Sunday, aged 89 years, served as Oyo State Governor in the Second Republic.

Governor Oyebanji, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, said the late Dr Olunloyo left a remarkable record of service, and commitment to the development of Oyo State in particular and Nigeria as a whole.

He noted that the late Dr Olunloyo was a distinguished scholar who contributed to the moulding of the nation's manpower in the education sector before he joined public service, where he also served meritoriously.

The Ekiti Governor said the deceased's service as a Commissioner in the old Western Region was notable and served as a launching pad to higher service as Governor in the old Oyo State.

Oyebanji credited the deceased with relentless contribution to national development, especially for offering his counsel at critical times and opening his door to contemporary politicians to tap from his wealth of experience.

He urged the family of the deceased to continue to celebrate his purposeful life and indelible legacies which have outlived him.

The Governor prayed God to grant the family, associates, the government and people of Oyo State the fortitude to bear the loss.

“On behalf of the Government and people of Ekiti State, I commiserate with Governor Seyi Makinde; the good people of Oyo State and the entire Olunloyo family on the passing of a celebrated leader and former Governor of old Oyo State. Our prayer is that the Lord will grant his soul eternal rest and comfort the family” , the statement added.

Senate Leader donates buses, wheelchairs to Ekiti Therapy Centre for children with disabilities.
….promises to build a bigger Centre next year.

In support of Governor Biodun Oyebanji's significant investment in the welfare of children with disabilities in Ekiti State, Senate Leader Senator Opeyemi Bamidele has donated two mini-buses, two motorcycles, and 25 wheelchairs to the Therapy Centre for Children with Disabilities in Ado-Ekiti.

Senator Bamidele made the donation during a visit to the Therapy Centre alongside Governor Oyebanji on Friday. The items were received by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Education and Social Inclusion, Princess Adetoun Agboola, who also guided the Governor and the Senator around the facility.

Senator Bamidele praised Governor Oyebanji's commitment to the welfare of children with disabilities, noting that the therapy centre is the first state-owned facility of its kind in the country. He promised to facilitate the construction of a bigger therapy centre as part of his constituency project next year.

Expressing his satisfaction with the cordial relationship between Governor Oyebanji and members of the Ekiti State caucus of the National Assembly, Senator Bamidele assured the Governor that caucus members would continue to support his people-oriented programmes and policies aimed at improving the living standards of Ekiti people.

"Let me begin by thanking His Excellency, our Governor, for bringing me here to see what's happening. I also want to thank the state government for conceptualizing this initiative. I extend my gratitude to the workers, the volunteer parents, the professionals, and all the interveners here. I am glad to be here, and I believe we need to attract all the encouragement we can from the Federal Government.

"The Governor has made a specific request. I always describe our relationship as a partnership that is working for the people of our state. By the grace of God, I will prioritize this as my number one constituency project for 2026. From my budget of N1.5 billion for construction, I will take it on, and by God's grace, we will commence work here next year. In the meantime, let us see how we can maintain the current facilities and explore corporate social responsibility interventions until the new building is ready."

Governor Oyebanji had earlier asked Senator Bamidele to facilitate the construction of a bigger structure that could accommodate all the children simultaneously, allowing them to attend the Centre daily.

The Governor stated, "Distinguished Senator, the reason I brought you here is that we currently have 70 children, but due to a lack of space, we must attend to them in batches. Premium Trust Bank has renovated this facility for us, and with our limited resources, we have been able to keep it operating. I brought you here to see the need for a bigger structure that can accommodate more children at once."

In her remarks, Princess Adetoun Agboola affirmed that the Centre serves children with cerebral palsy, autism, and other disabilities, particularly those who cannot fit into traditional schools due to the severity of their conditions. She commended Governor Oyebanji for providing a facility where children requiring physical, occupational, and speech therapy can receive assistance until they can return to school.

Mrs Agboola noted that the Centre had designed a timetable allowing no more than 20 children to be transported from their homes each day using the bus provided by the Governor, as their population has grown to around 70. She also expressed gratitude to the Senate Leader for the donated vehicles, motorcycles, and wheelchairs, stating that these will greatly enhance their work at the Centre.
