Oyebanji Inaugurates Ekiti Development Committee, Abuja Branch.
...Urges members on State’s Growth.

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, has inaugurated the Abuja Branch of Ekiti Development Committee, with a charge to members to actively promote and defend the interest of the state in their various capacities.

Speaking at the event held at the State House, Abuja, during the week, Governor Oyebanji emphasized his administration's commitment to fostering collaborative efforts and partnerships for the state’s development.

He expressed gratitude to the committee members for their willingness to leverage their influence to attract benefits for Ekiti people, stressing the importance of securing strategic positions for Ekiti indigenes at the federal level to accelerate infrastructure and human capital growth.

“This is a fall out of the stakeholders Summit we had in Abuja in July. We agreed that there is the need for us to put a committee in place to do follow up and look after the interest of the state in the Federal Capital Territory, and I am glad today that the committee has been inaugurated, comprising of eminent Ekiti Indigenes living in the FCT.

“My charge to them is just to see this as a God-given assignment for them to assist their father’s land. And with the enthusiasm I have seen on display by the members, it points to the fact that the best is yet to come.” Oyebanji stated.

The Governor also briefed the gathering on his efforts to engage various federal ministries and agencies in supporting Ekiti’s development, assuring the committee of his administration's readiness to back their initiatives, as well as their career progression, urging them to provide timely information for government action.

A prominent member of the committee and Permanent Secretary at the State House, Engineer Funsho Adebiyi, lauded the Governor’s initiative in bringing stakeholders together for the state's progress. He pledged the committee's full support, noting that their mandate includes attracting local and international investors to Ekiti and securing scholarships for Ekiti indigenes through private and international contacts.

“We will work across different sectors— from infrastructure and security to health services, education, and agriculture. For instance, the Minister of Agriculture has graciously agreed to provide us with 1,300 bags of fertilizers. Ekiti is set for good times,” Adebiyi remarked.

The committee, chaired by Mr. Remi Olatunbode and comprising Ekiti indigenes who are directors in various federal ministries and agencies, held its inaugural meeting shortly after the event.

EKITI GOVT RESTATES COMMITTMENT TO DUE DILIGENCE, TRANSPARENCY, ACCOUNTABILITY IN PUBLIC FUNDS MANAGEMENT.

EKITI GOVT RESTATES COMMITTMENT TO DUE DILIGENCE, TRANSPARENCY, ACCOUNTABILITY IN PUBLIC FUNDS MANAGEMENT.
....Says N1.189billion Projects Carried Out By Direct Labour.

Ekiti State Government has restated its commitment to due diligence, transparency and accountability in the management of public funds.

The State Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun who gave the assurance in a statement made available to newsmen in Ado-Ekiti, said the claim by an online publication suggesting that Government awarded contracts worth N1.189billion to Permanent Secretaries, General Managers and Directors General of Government Agencies is very misleading and deceitful.

Olatunbosun emphasized that the clarification became necessary in order to set the record straight and correct the false impression dished out by the online publication that is capable of causing distrust, disaffection, anxiety and possible strife if not addressed”.

The Commissioner wondered why the publication downplayed the fact that the procurement process it referred to was conducted under strict guidelines of Direct Labour Procurement Law of the State and involved amounts well below thresholds allowed by the law.

He stressed that the Direct Labour Procurement Laws were established to ensure that procurement activities are conducted transparently, efficiently, and within the bounds of fiscal responsibility.

Olatunbosun explained that “the Direct Labour Procurement method is principally designed for projects that require urgent attention, and it is well-regulated to prevent any form of abuse or misallocation of resources. All contracts awarded through this process have been thoroughly vetted, ensuring that they meet the necessary requirements and contribute to the public good without exceeding the legally permissible financial limits”.

“It's important to understand that the Permanent Secretaries involved in these processes are not beneficiaries of the contracts. Rather, they are the custodians, as Accounting Officers of their respective MDAs, that shoulder the responsibility of ensuring that public procurement adheres to the highest standards of accountability and transparency”.

“Any suggestion that they are personally benefiting from these contracts is not only inaccurate but also undermines the integrity of the civil service”.

He noted that information on the website of the State Bureau of Public Procurement that was misrepresented by the publication to the public clearly stated the specific purpose of the projects, adding that the project involving the Ministry of Transportation comprised the internal electrification and installation of 1MVA,33/0.415kva transformer at the State Cargo Airport while that of the Ministry of  Investment, Trade, Industries and Cooperatives was for empowerment of skilled-workers through training and securing Trade Test Certificate for artisan groups in the state and the State Electricity Board  were to handle repair of damaged transformer at Falegan as well as install relief transformer at Olaoluwa/Orisun Egbewa communities along Ilawe road in the State capital.

Reiterating the commitment of Governor Biodun Oyebanji administration to upholding the principles of transparency and accountability in all procurement processes, Olatunbosun appealed to newsmen to avoid misrepresentation of facts to the public stressing the need to be thorough to avoid distortion of facts.

“We remain committed to upholding the principles of transparency and accountability in all our procurement processes. Any inquiries into these matters will reveal that we have strictly followed due process, in line with the provisions set out by the government. We welcome any further scrutiny or independent review to verify these facts", he stated.

EKSG Approves ₦2.7bn for De-Head/Faglo to Basiri Junction Road Rehabilitation.

EKSG Approves ₦2.7bn for De-Head/Faglo to Basiri Junction Road Rehabilitation.
By Olamide Akinwumi.

The Ekiti State Government has approved the sum of ₦2.7 billion for the rehabilitation of the De-Head to Faglo, Basiri Junction Road in Ado Ekiti, a strategic project aimed at easing traffic congestion and boosting socio-economic activities within the state capital.

The project, which was awarded to the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), is part of Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s broader infrastructure development agenda and is expected to be completed within 12 months.

This decision was reached during the State Executive Council meeting held on Monday, 26th August 2024, at the Executive Council Chamber, New Governor’s Office, Ado Ekiti.

Announcing the development, the State Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun, explained that the rehabilitation would bring significant relief to residents and businesses along the Adebayo-Ekiti State University corridor, an area frequently plagued by traffic bottlenecks. He noted that the road's current state, which has deteriorated due to increased vehicular use, has been a source of frustration for commuters, especially during the rainy season.

Olatunbosun added that the project would not only improve traffic flow but also enhance security and the movement of goods, which are critical to economic activities in the area. He further stated that the state government is confident in CCECC’s capacity to deliver on the project promptly, given the contractor’s previous success with the Atlas-Ajebamidele-Omisanjana road project.

“This administration remains committed to ensuring that roads across the state are constantly in good condition and motorable, thereby enhancing both social and economic development,” Olatunbosun said.

Residents of the Basiri, Adebayo, and Ekiti State University axis, who have long advocated for the road's rehabilitation, are expected to benefit immensely from the project, which is anticipated to improve safety and reduce travel times significantly.

The rehabilitation of this key artery for traffic into and out of Ado Ekiti is one of several infrastructure projects that the Oyebanji administration has initiated in its effort to modernize the state's transportation network and foster sustainable development across Ekiti State.
