100 days in office: I’ll use Awo’s political philosophy drive development in Ekiti – Oyebanji.

100 days in office: I’ll use Awo’s political philosophy drive development in Ekiti – Oyebanji.
…..To prioritize people’s welfare State power project ready for commissioning by May.
Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji has said he would use the philosophy of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo as Premier of the old Western region drive development in the state, focusing more on the welfare of the people above any other considerations.
Oyebanji also said his administration would undertake a radical review of academic curriculum in the state to expose students to cognate knowledge that would make them relevant in the 21st century economy.

Governor Oyebanji, who stated this on Friday during a Stakeholders’ Engagement session, where he gave account of his stewardship to the people in commemoration of his 100 days in office, said his government is committing huge resources to the promotion  of Small and Medium Scale Enterprises, resolve power outage, propel  road infrastructure, tourism and education, to buoy the economy and bring prosperity to the populace.

The event, which was themed ‘Keeping Ekiti Working Towards Shared Prosperity’ was attended by the Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye; Wife of the Governor, Dr Olayemi Oyebanji, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olubunmi Adelugba, Secretary to the State Government, Dr Habibat Adubiaro; Head of Service, Barr. Bamidele Agbede, members of the National Assembly; members of the House of Assembly, members of the State Executive Council, labour union leaders; market women, Artisans and other stakeholders of the state.

While expressing his appreciation to the public servants in the state, the Governor restated his commitment to them by assuring them that he would continue to pay their salaries and deductions without any hitch, adding that when they were paid, the resources will go round the market women and artisans thereby building a strong local economy in the state.

Reeling out the giant strides he was making in the health sector, Oyebanji posited that copious and spirited efforts are being devised to tame the migration of doctors  from the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital and other health facilities overseas.

He said: "We don't have oil in Ekiti,  but we have intellectual resources that we can deploy to develop our state. We have provided T- SCAN at EKSUTH and installing 12 others in our health facilities.

"We are making efforts to ensure that some of our doctors and other medical professionals  that are leaving Ekiti in droves stop and work here. We have agreed to some of their terms and demands".

Mr Oyebanji said he does not have excuse not to be able to drive Ekiti towards the desired development and prosperity as he was part of the vanguard for the creation of Ekiti at a tender age of 26 years stated that he understand the nuances of government due to his long years of experience in governance especially during Otunba Niyi Adebayo and Dr Kayode Fayemi administrations in the state.
He added that his administration has achieved a lot in the rehabilitation of Ado Ekiti and Ikole Ekiti township roads assuring that other local government would follow suit to ensure the state attract development through national and international investors to the state.

In his effort to boost the economy of the state, the Governor also confirmed that the Independent Power Project of the state in Ado Ekiti would be commissioned by May this year to power for the street lights, government offices, hospitals which may later upscale from the initial 1Mw to 5Mw in the nearest future.
He also added that the Ilupeju and Ijesa Isu power substations would soon be completed in collaboration with the Federal Government to end electricity problem in the northern area of the state as well as to Omuo-Ekiti axis which had been cut off the national grid for over eight years.

Mr Oyebanji noted that his administration had commenced the empowerment of youths through Innovation Grants Facilities developed as a template to open ways of employment for the youths leading to appreciable impacts in job creation.

He also added that his administration had concluded plans to remove all the challenges impeding youths from embarking in agricultural businesses by developing massive plans for the agricultural space through provision of farm seedlings, pest control, and cultivation of farmland.

“Chief Obafemi Awolowo is dead, but Chief was remembered more because of free education than because of any other thing, and that tells me that policy, though intangible that has a very fundamental effect on the lives of the populace will be more enduring and sustainable than any other thing. And I was elected to choose Awolowo’s philosophy of developing the people.

“One of the main policy thrust of his administration was to ensure that the welfare of  workers was accorded top priority. My administration is making workers welfare a top priority as well. To us, right from the time we started, we have been paying salaries regularly and I know that those who are doing cooperatives are also receiving their deductions and I have given matching order to Commissioner for Finance and Accountant General that payment of deductions must not fail because I promised workers that we are going to restore regular payment of deductions because workers rely on it to finance a lot of things including payment of children school fees, building of houses and so on.

“We campaigned on a mantra of shared prosperity and the six pillars of my administration is geared towards that and the only way we can achieve this is through productivity, so, the driver or engine of growth is the micro, small and medium enterprises in any state or country. But the lubricant of the engine is the civil service. Why I am saying this is for you to understand what is going to drive our policy thrust.

Governor Oyebanji thanked his immediate predecessor in office, Dr Kayode Fayemi; the first Civilian Governor of the State, Otunba Niyi Adebayo and former governor Ayodele Fayose for their sundry support and counsel. He also thanked Ekiti State members of the National Assembly, for their support in attracting federal presence to the state, as well as the state lawmakers for their cooperation.

He promised to make regular interface with the people a major feature of the administration.

Gas Explosion: EKSG Orders Removal, Seizure of Abandoned Tanker at Accident Scene.

Gas Explosion: EKSG Orders Removal, Seizure of Abandoned Tanker at Accident Scene.
To avoid explosion that could cause colossal loss of lives and property, the Ekiti State Government, has ordered immediate removal and confiscation of a Gas Tanker abandoned at an accident scene at Igede Ekiti, Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government area of the State.

The Government, also directed the security agencies to ascertain the owner of the articulated vehicle conveying the gas-laden tank that was abandoned since Friday along Igede-Iyin Road, which poses serious danger to the people.

Handing down the order during a visit to the accident site on Monday, the Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye, said Governor Biodun Oyebanji was deeply worried by the abandonment of the tank in the residential area for days without prompt action taken to evacuate it.

Afuye, in a statement by her Special Assistant on Media, Victor Ogunje, said the Governor’s expectation was that the owners ought to have evacuated the inflammable substance from the accident portion few hours after the accident, but lamented that such action was not contemplated

The Deputy Governor said the State Government had deployed fire fighters to the portion to be on guard and avert any any untoward situation.

She said the removal and confiscation became the best option to prevent unwarranted loss of precious lives of the people, since the owners could not be ascertained as of the time of the visit .

The Deputy Governor directed the Chairman of the Council, Hon. Babatola Ogundana to get another articulated truck and work with other experts and remove the inflammable substance from its present scene with immediate effect.

She said; “We thank God that no explosion accompanied the accident despite that this substance is highly inflammable. But it was bad for the owners to have left it here for days without thinking of the implications of his action.

“The Governor was worried and that informed his action that fire fighting truck should be stationed at the scene of the accident, because as the tank gets hotter, the possibility of it exploding is very high and that could be dangerous to our people and their property.

“The safety of our people is of priority to this administration and we won’t take chances with this. The Chairman should work with experts and remove the tank from here within the next few hours, that was the instruction of Mr. Governor”.

Mrs Afuye commended the Council boss for promptly informing the police and the Department of State Services about the incident, saying the agencies will investigate and unravel the identities of the owners.

In his response, the Council Chairman, Hon Ogundana and the lawmaker representing Irepodun/Ifelodun Constituency 1 in the House of Assembly, Hon Femi Akindele, said the landlords and motorists, had been gripped with fear, since the accident occured last Friday.

Akindele said the truck had the accident while trying to ascend the hilly portion of Igede-Iyin road, and that he said accounted for why it fell along the roadside.

“We are all worried here. Even the residents and leaders of Igede are worried . They were not really happy about why the owners abandoned this dangerous and inflammable substance here for days. To us, this is insensitive and callous.

“We thank the Government of Ekiti State for taking this prompt action. This I believe will help in averting serious crisis here. Lives of the people should be very precious to any government and that is exactly what Governor Biodun Oyebanji has demonstrated here.

“We are assuring him that all the stakeholders will work together to carry out his instruction for the sake of all of us”.

HISTORY MAKER: FLORA NKIRU NWAPA.

HISTORY MAKER: FLORA NKIRU NWAPA.
Join us today as we look at another African that made History: Flora Nkiru Nwapa.
Flora Nkiru Nwapa was Nigeria’s first female novelist and the first female novelist in all of black Africa to be published internationally, in the English language. She was also Africa’s first female to publish a novel. She’s regarded as the Mother of Modern African Literature. She was born on 13th January, 1931, in Ugwuta, Imo State. She was the 1st daughter out of six children.

Flora was born into two prominent Nigerian families—Nwapa Nduka and the Onumonu Uzaru. Her parents were an early influence, especially her mother, Martha Onyenma Nwapa who was one of the most prominent women in Oguta. Martha was the first woman to obtain the “customary standard six examinations” from St. Monica’s, a missionary school in the town. A studious woman, she went on to teach schools in Oguta & encouraged all her children to develop a love for reading. Flora’s father, Christopher Ijoma Nwapa, was an important land owner & managing director of one of Britain’s largest exporting companies; his primary business was the foreign sale of palm oil, a major commodity used by the British.

At an early age, Flora attended the C.M.S. Central School Ugwuta, Imo state and the Archdeacon Crowther Memorial Girls School, PortHarcourt, RiversState. In 1950, she took post secondary courses at Queens College, Lagos. After completing her studies, Nwapa taught briefly at Priscilla Memorial Grammar School in Oguta, a school founded by her uncle, Chief Richard Nzimiro, the first mayor of Port Harcourt, and her illustrious aunt Mary Nzimiro. Gone but not forgotten!

What do you know about Òkè-Ọde?Oke-Ode is a big town in kwara state, Nigeria

What do you know about Òkè-Ọde?
Oke-Ode is a big town in kwara state, Nigeria.

Òkè-Ọde indigenes are responsible reliable, trusted, honest, truthful, hardworking and peaceful. The people living  there lives comfortable and in happiness. Hence the reason why many people relocated from their town to Òkè-Ọde town. The earlier Òkè-Ọde were called Òkè-ilé, during their forefathers lifetime, they move from one Place to another which means they move from oke-ile village to oke-ode town.

Since then they started building houses in oke-ode and is well developed, even people's outside the oke-ode come to visit the town while some stayed in the town and sell their market most especially on their market days.

Their market is an urban market, because people comes from osun state, kogi state, Ogun state and all the neighboring towns around Kwara State usually comes to the market in order to trade their market simply because market is moving well in oke-ode township.

So all this made oke-ode more unique and powerful among the rest. You too can come and visit oke-ode for better understanding whether you're a civil servant or trader, you will see that by the special grace of god, you will make your profit, because that is why people "rush in" to the town that is , everything is going smoothly the citizens of oke-ode now travels all over the world and many of them lives outside of Nigeria.

Fuel Scarcity and Hike in Pump Price: A Passionate Call from Concerned Nigerians.

Fuel Scarcity and Hike in Pump Price: A Passionate Call from Concerned Nigerians.
....Omoluabi Team Alliance Socio- cultural and Political Group writes, urged Federal Government to be considerable in their decisions making.
.....appealed to Nigerians to be careful of deceivers during this election period.
When a country fails to plan, such a country then should be prepared to fail. It has become the case of national embarrassment on us all as Nigerians can no longer afford to buy fuel at cheaper prices and most times a worst embarrassment when we don't even have assess to same fuel whose raw materials are abundantly available in our country.  It becomes expedient to call government and other stakeholders in the oil and gas industry to explain to Nigerians on why this situation of hike in pump price is yet to be reduced and   why the products have become a scarce commodity. Indepent oil marketers should  be considerable and shun the idea of making excessive profits at the expense of the good welfare of  Nigerians should be discouraged. Security agencies and relevant  task forces should be deployed to enforce and monitor the sales of petrol in all filling stations across the length and breadth of Nigeria.

It is a pathetic story for a country that have refused to spend the the financial gains from sales of crude to the international market for over several decades but could not own state-of -the art  refineries that will be a pride of Nigeria and even West African sub- region. We cannot continue to window- dress our problems and challenges as a country or pretend like all is well. We must challenge leaders, we must put our leaders on their toes, we must ask questions from those we gave our mandates to in recent times, they have sworn to an oath to provide good leadership and make our collective welfares a sole responsibility as elected political office holders. Inadequate planning, wastage of national resources and sabotage by some concerned investors and stakeholders at the top- enchelon of the oil and gas sector is undoubtedly the root of this challenges we are presently facing collectively as a country. The question is why will a single Nigerian have the financial muscle to put up a refinery adjudged presently to have been the largest in West Africa and a whole county incapacitated to put up at least two of same facilities of at least same standard even if the country can not do better.

Nigerians have been very tolerant enough, resilient, patient and law abiding. It will be very wrong to continue to take Nigerians for granted in decision makings

President Buhari and his economic team should do all within their powers to handover a Nigeria where the pump price of fuel and other by-products consumed by Nigerians will be available at very affordable prices and available for all to buy round the clock.

Omoluabi Team Alliance Socio- cultural group advise Nigerians to put on their thinking caps as election time approaches. Leaders who understands the nitty gritty of fixing national economy to benefit all should be  elected in the 2023 general election. The group will soon make public its: most preferred Presidential candidate as preparations are ongoing to provide directions to Nigerians as we make this collectie decisions  to vote credible leaders that will bring great relief to us all.

Oyebanji assures commitment to effective administration of justice.

Oyebanji assures commitment to effective administration of justice.
..…As Wole Olanipekun gifts High Court Complex to Ekiti judiciary.
Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji has assured the the judiciary that his administration will continue to ensure effective administration of justice through improvement of the condition of the courts and welfare of judicial officers in the state.

The Governor, Who stated this at the official commissioning of the ultra-modern High Court Complex donated to the State Government by a former President of the Nigeria Bar Association ( NBA), Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), affirmed that his administration understands the importance of law and order to the progress and development of the state and hence would ensure its sanctity.

He confirmed that his government had partnered with the judiciary on diverse issues to improve the business environment by being one of the first states to create a Small Claims Court for the settlement of commercial matters, which had provided comfort to lenders, and improve medium enterprises.

Governor  Oyebanji also restated his unflinching commitment to the judicial system of the state as he revealed that his administration was working on two bills which included the Ekiti State Wealth Fund Bill aimed to ensure the State establishes a proper savings culture, and the Ekiti State Startup Bill to ensure the State creates an enabling environment for startups to complement the Ekiti Knowledge Zone project.

He commended the state’s judicial officers for maintaining high standard of professionalism that makes the judicial system one of the most progressive and innovative in the country as well as the judges most courageous and erudite despite the obvious inadequacies in the system.

While maintaining that his administration would continue to uphold the rule of law, fundamental human rights and the independence of the judiciary, the Governor hoped that with more resources available to the State, the current financial autonomy of the Judiciary will bring about the envisaged rapid transformation of the Justice sector in the State.

He also used the opportunity to reminding the gathering which included Ekiti State Chief Judge, Justice John Adeyeye; Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Dayo Apata, Senators representing Ekiti North, Olubunmi Adetunmbi and Biodun Olujimi; former Senator Babafemi Ojudu; former Deputy Governors Surv. Abiodun Aluko; Prof. Eleka; traditional rulers and distinguished members of the bar and the bench that the task of developing Ekiti cannot be solely that of the Government alone urging individuals to pick on something of interest in our different communities and make a significant impact in the lives of the people.

The Governor called on good spirited Ekiti indigenes to emulate the good gestures of the donor saying “As a people who are in need of urgent development, Chief Olanipekun has given us a legacy to copy. I want to therefore, call on all Ekiti indigenes all over the world to emulate this act of generous giving back. If we all look back at our family houses, our communities, our primary and secondary schools, our worship places and other places that once contributed to whom we are, and give back, we will have a better Ekiti of our dream.

“I have known Chief Wole Olanipekun for quite a while. In Ekiti State, aside Aare Afe Babalola, I am yet to find a man who finds satisfaction in giving back to his place of birth as he does. His signature act of kindness can be found in every aspect of his life in Ikere-Ekiti. I am aware of his immense role to the transformation of the then College of Education, Ikere-Ekiti to Bamidele Olumilua University of Science and Technology. His doggedness and commitment to see the University succeed led to his appointment as the first Chancellor of the University after a similar appointment in the University of Ibadan where Chief left an enduring legacy.

“Finally, I want to once again thank Chief Olanipekun and his wife for this edifice and to congratulate the Ekiti State Judiciary on this brand new court complex. I hope that the building will be well maintained to encourage Chief to do more. May all who will work and seek justice here do so with the same spirit of generosity of the donor and may God continue to bless him.”

Earlier,  Chief Olanipekun noted that he decided to continue to give to humanity because he believes that anything that he achieved in life was made possible by the grace of God adding that life should be about about giving and impacting humanity.

The former NBA President, who noted that the Court complex complied with global best practices with grandiose and state of the art facilities that would encourage optimal performance for Judges and Lawyers appealed to government and all men of goodwill to improve the courts of law by improving their facilities all over the state.

He used the opportunity to affirm the danger in the provision of section 65 of Electoral Act which empowers the Chief Returning Officer to review and rescind his decision saying the Returning Officer is not a court of judicial power or tribunal that could be vested with such powers.

Also speaking at the event, the founder and the Chancellor of Afe Babalola University, Aare Afe Babalola commended Chief Olanipekun for his philanthropic spirit which had made him give back quite a good number of projects to the society as a expressed his appreciation to the donor for naming the Library of the court after him.

According to her, the Assembly leadership used the period of the recess of the House to identify with the vulnerable citizens in their places of abode to motivate them and their caregivers and to donate cash gifts to alleviate some of the problems they are encountering.

Rt. Hon. Adelugba added that the gesture of the lawmakers was also in tandem with the directive given by Governor Biodun Oyebanji during his last birthday in which he called on well meaning individuals, groups and organisations to donate financial and material gifts to institutions housing vulnerable citizens.

Addressing students of the School for the Blind, Ikere, the Speaker encouraged them to believe in themselves and have faith that they could become great in life as the situations they found themselves are not enough to kill their dream urging them to draw inspiration from others who defied challenges like physical disability to become prominent and successful in life.

She said: "If you can learn very well, you can be sure that you will achieve what other people that are doing well are achieving and even do better than them. People who are physically challenged always out their minds in whatever they do because of their condition and you will discover that their determination always make them to excel.

"You are going to move from here and go to the university and be able to do greater things in life. We are here to let you know that you are not forgotten, you are in the mind of the state government and you are also in the mind of Mr. Governor, a man who has demonstrated his love for you by his gestures.

"The Governor on his last birthday asked individuals who are his friends to visit this school and other centres to make donations. I am sure some other people had visited here to make donations as instructed by Mr. Governor.

"I want to apologize that we are coming a bit late, it is because the House went on a recess and we are still on recess but we believe that what must be done, must be done and that is why you are seeing only the principal officers of the House here and there is no point delaying further.

"I want you to know the fact that the Governor loves you and the House of Assembly loves you as well. I believe that the cash we are donating today will go a long way in alleviating some of the challenges you are facing."

Speaking while making donation there, the Speaker expressed satisfaction with the establishment of the Sexual Assault Referral Centre, also known as the Moremi Clinic at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, noting that the state was lucky to have such a facility.

She said: "We are here to extend hands of fellowship to you. It is good that this is happening in Ekiti because not many states have this kind of facility and we are using this opportunity to celebrate the Governor's birthday."

"The last time we were at the Adunni Olayinka Wellness and Diagnostic Centre, the authorities said that was the first time honourable members would submit themselves for medical check-up there and I hope many people will take advantage of the facilities here."

The Speaker and members of the delegation saluted the officials working in the facilities visited commending them for their commitment and dedication to duty and also for making their working places the neat and conducive for performance of their duties.

The Principal of the School for the Blind, Mrs. Felicia Amogbonjaye; her counterpart in the School for the Physically Challenged and Mentally Retarded, Mrs. Olayide Adu; the Coordinator of the Sexual Assault Referral Centre, Mrs. Rita Ilevbare and the managers of the Erelu Adebayo Orphanage all expressed gratitude to the Ekiti Assembly for the humanitarian gesture.

Other Assembly principal officers on the visit were the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Hakeem Jamiu; the Chief Whip, Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye; Leader of Business, Hon. Johnson Bode-Adeoye; Chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Hon. Lateef Akanle and the lawmaker representing Ise/Orun Constituency, Hon. Ayodeji  Ajayi.

Obi, Atiku, Kwankaso Are Good But Tinubu Is The Best - Chief John Filani
.........as Chieftain scores APC low on performance.
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Elder States man, Chief John Olumuyiwa Filani has declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the best man to lead Nigeria to the Promise land.

Chief Filani made this declaration during a press conference in Ado Ekiti the Ekiti state capital on Thursday 19th of January 2023.

According to the elder statesman, he came to the conclusion that Tinubu is the right man for the job after carefully taking his time to study the four foremost aspirants jostling for the Aso Rock seat ditto the  personality of Tinubu as a  colleague, friend and a leader who is exemplary in character.

Chief Filani, who lamented the deplorable state of the country especially that of  economy and Education blamed the leadership of the APC especially President Muhammad Buhari and his cabinet for reneging on their promise to bring succour to the path of Nigerians.

" When Fashola said we should stone him if they can't bring light if voted within six months or the promises that Buhari himself made during the 2015 campaigns. But now let's ask ourselves where is the light? Where are the good roads, I hardly use 30 minutes of light in this house most times I run on generator and you can imagine what other sectors are going through".

Asked why he chose Tinubu ahead of others, Chief Filani maintained that all the other aspirants are capable and also have good records and would perform creditably well if given the opportunity but Tinubu because of his wealth of experience has an edge over the others.
" I can assure you Tinubu will win the February 2023 elections and Nigerians will not regret it. People should not blame him for the shortcomings of the APC because he is not the one calling the shots even though he is a leader in the party. Tinubu will change the policies of this present administration and ensure a working Nigeria that we can all be proud of"
He therefore, enjoined all Nigerians to get their PVC's and also go out to vote the candidate of the APC.
He urged the populace to look beyond the issue of party and vote the candidate even though it will be difficult to remove Tinubu from APC or vice versa.
" I have my PVC and I will go out to vote the person of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I am not voting for the party but the personality contesting on the platform of the party and I also encourage everyone out there to follow suit ".
He concluded by scoring the APC low going by the performance of the ruling party and citing the failures mostly on second term ambitions of politicians which he described as greed and self centeredness.
Nobody should go for a second term he concluded.

Media Group Names Fayemi Yoruba Man Of The Year 2022.

Media Group Names Fayemi Yoruba Man Of The Year 2022.
....Lists Awolowo best thinker, Ransome Kuti family as Yoruba greatest in a century.
The former Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi has been named as the Yoruba Man of the Year 2022. The announcement was made by Irohinoodua Publishers Ltd, the first Pan Yoruba online media established in 2010.

In a statement signed by the Executive Editor of the group, Mr Taiwo Adeleye, the former Ekiti State Governor won the Yoruba Man of the Year Award 2022 based on three considerations: Development of Education, Security/Regional Integration of the South West and Promotion of Human Rights Ideal.

Last year, Fayemi was also The group said Fayemi has age on his side adding that with his global network and credibility, he is a potential global leader. Irohinoodua said it was significant that Fayemi was September last year elected as the President of Forum of Regions in African in the city of Saidia in Morocco under the auspices of His Majesty. King Mohammed VI.

Irohinoodua said Dr Fayemi today remains the pioneer of the Laptop for A Child programme which he introduced to Ekiti as far back as 2010. The media group said the result is a distinguished performance in Education in Ekiti an effort that reclaimed the floundering momentum of a knowledge driven state. Under Fayemi, Ekiti was rated as Number 5 according to the Multinational Poverty Index (MPI) report released by the National Bureau of Statistics, (NBS) which shows that Ekiti stands above its potentials.

It noted that other states were to follow the remarkable examples in later years. Irohinoodua said Dr Fayemi takes the credit for the creation of Amotekun.

‘We recall that as far back 2010, he drew up a comprehensive strategy in response to the crisis in the Maghreb region with a futuristic plan to ensure the South West was saved from the spill over. The creativity of his ideas was not to be fully reckoned until in later years when Nigeria and the South West began to witness terrorist invasion. He had employed 800 members of the Peace Corps backed with an Act of State Parliament which full potential was momentarily halted due to the change of Government in Ekiti in 2014.’

The group said ‘As soon as he came back to power in 2018, Dr Fayemi reenacted the project which gave birth to Amotekun adopted by at least five of the six state governors realizing that peace in the South West is imperative for a stable and prosperous country.’

Irohinoodua said Dr Fayemi remains the most consistent supporter of Regional Integration of the South West. He demonstrated this all throughout his eight-year tenure. Having hosted the first South West Regional Integration meeting in Ado-Ekiti, he provided unflinching support for the South West Development Agenda through several initiatives including but not limited to being the first to appoint the Commissioner for Regional Integration and now the building of the Cargo Airport which he left as an enduring legacy in Ekiti State to the benefit of the entire South West States apart from its strategic importance to Kwara, Kogi, Edo and the South South and the Middle Belt.

Irohinoodua said it should be observed that in the face of very learn resources, Dr Fayemi was able to establish the first State owned Cargo Airport in the entire South West. Irohinoodua said Ekiti has emerged as the most right sensitive state in Nigeria evident in the domestication of the Freedom of Information Law, Ekiti being the first to carry out the initiative and the new laws against gender violence which has brought Ekiti into the arena of international discourse. Irohinoodua said the Ekiti human rights initiative was further boosted by the courage of Ekiti State Ministry of Justice to take many initiatives in defense of human rights including challenging the state police where necessary. All these achievements are remarkable considering the fact that Ekiti is on the lowest ladder of the Federal allocation and remains the least industrialized in the South West.

Irohinoodua also listed former Premier of the Western Region, Chief Obafemi Awolowo as the Greatest Thinker of the last Century while the Ransome Kuti Family was announced as the greatest of the Yoruba families in the past century.

Irohinoodua said Awolowo wrote books that addressed past, present and future problems of Nigeria and Yorubaland adding that his political ideas makes him to be relevant at all times. It said that the Ransome Kuti family have done the Yoruba proud locally and internationally beginning from its first known generation led by the iconic Josiah Ransome Kuti, a clergyman, an educationist, a human rights activist, a composer, through his son, Josiah Kuti and the childrena dn grandchildren who over the years have sustained a libertarian tradition motivated by creativity, resistance against injustice, service to humanity and the empowerment of millions of people through the provision of knowledge and music. Past recipients of the Yoruba Man of the Year were Prof Wole Soyinka, Prof Banji Akintoye and Prof Adeniran, a United States based heart surgeon.

Oyebanji Visits Burnt Shasha Market, Promises Support for Traders.

Oyebanji Visits Burnt Shasha Market, Promises Support for Traders.
By: Olamide Akinwumi
The Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, on Monday, visited the burnt shasha market in Ikere Ekiti, Ikere Local Government Area, promising supports for traders, who lost their valuables to the inferno that engulfed a section of the market, on Saturday.

Oyebanji, who lamented how multi-million naira wares and other structures, had been razed down, urged traders across the state to be conscious of their actions during this dry season period to avert calamity.

A section of the market located between Ado-Ikere road, was around 4pm, on Saturday, gutted by fire, with property worth millions of naira destroyed in the evening inferno.

Visiting the market alongside members of the State Executive Council, yesterday, Oyebanji assured the Hausa and Yoruba traders that were affected of support to recover their losses.

The Governor's delegation, led by the Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye, pledged that the state government will carry out some restructuring in the market, by ensuring that enough spaces are created between blocks to prevent easy spread of fire.

The governor added that officers and staff of the Ministry of Trade and Investment will be visiting the market to enumerate the the number of victims and take other vital information to provide proper and relevant intervention guide.

In line with the promise made to the traders during the electioneering campaign, the governor, said the road leading to the market from the Ado-Ikere-Akure road will be graded to ease transportation along the axis.

"Governor Biodun Oyebanji sympathise with you on the losses you suffered , but let us be cautious in all our dealings this time because dry season is around now.

"We thank God that no life was lost. We can still make up for those things we have lost through personal efforts and government's intervention. But if anyone had died, it is irreversible.

"Let us be careful. We never knew the generating set that caused the incident would spark up fire. We thank God that the person who caused the arson also owned up that he was responsible for it. But government won't punish him because it was not intentional.

"The government will surely give support for the fact our Governor wants everybody plying his trade in Ekiti to be happy and prosperous, not minding where you came from.

"We will provide roads and other facilities that will guarantee safety and good life here. I also appeal to traders to cooperate with the leadership of Traders' Association for the maintenance of some of the facilities they provided.

"People shouldn't resist payment of little rates to maintain them because government can't do it alone, we need your support".

Recounting how the incident happened, the Chairman of Traders' Association in the market, Alhaji Adamu Abdulhameed, said the fire surged around 4pm from a generating set and spread to other adjoining shops, including a cold room and razed them down.

He said; "We tried our best to quench the fire. We were in the mosque when it started, but the fire was beyond our control.

"The severity of the fire incident wouldn't have got to this level if we have a fire service station here that could have responded swiftly and in a better manner".

In similar fashion, the Iyaloja of Shasha Market, Chief (Mrs) Feyisayo Ayajo, made a passionate appeal to the government to establish a Fire Service Station in the market to always respond to any arson incident timeously.

"This market is big and viable enough to a fire service station. We plead with the Governor to kindly look at this demand and act appropriately to our request. Losing our property to fire can cripple our businesses and render us economically unviable".

Oyebanji preaches love, unity and patience at State thanksgiving service.

Oyebanji preaches love, unity and patience at State thanksgiving service.
.…as Ekiti cabinet members, workers, traditional rulers, others mark first working day with praises.
Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji has urged Ekiti people and Nigerians in general to embrace peace, unity and love for one another this year, stressing that development thrives better in a peaceful atmosphere.

The Governor stated this on Tuesday during the 2023 inter-religious thanksgiving service held at the Obafemi Awolowo Civic and Convention Centre, Ado Ekiti marking the first working day of the year. Citing the harmony displayed by the Christian and Muslim choristers as well as clerics at the service, Governor Oyebanji said it was obvious the state and country can achieve much more through unity and love.

“I don’t know if anybody noticed the fact that when the Muslim choir was ministering in songs, it was the Christian instrumentalists that bet the drums. And when the Muslim choristers was about mounting the stage, they were also dancing to the Christian music. This shows that if we love one another and are united in our purpose, our state and indeed our country can achieve a lot.”, the Governor said.

Speaking further, Oyebanji said  with less than 100 days in office, he had been able to demonstrate the needed capacity to confirm that he would deliver on the six pillars of his development agenda.

He also thanked labour unions in the state for showing maturity and understanding with government, saying he is irrevocably committed to resolving all issues relating to labour in the State.

The Governor called on staff of the State owned University and the Teaching Hospital not to regard industrial action as a veritable tool for settling labour matters, stressing that strikes or resorting to blackmail would not resolve any matter but would only aggravate them.

While noting that 2023 is a defining year for the country with the presidential election slated for February, Oyebanji urged all Ekiti residents to vote massively for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the APC Flagbearer to enable him record resounding victory, stressing that the former Lagos State Governor is the one ordained by God to lead the country.

“I believe strongly that as a people, if we are united, if we love one another and if we are patient with each other, things will be well. And I have strong believe in God that 2023 will be a year of abundant blessing for Ekiti, as a people and as a state. We are irrevocably committed to our promises to the people but I must appeal to the people for patience, we are not up to 100 days in office and people want all the problems to have been solved. One thing we have been able to do is to show you capacity that we are here to serve you.

“I am extremely grateful for your maturity, the NLC, JNC, TUC, NULGE, NUT, all the workers in Ekiti state, I am extremely grateful. And I plead with the unions in EKSU and ESUTH to emulate this. Its not that they don’t have issues, they have issues too but they understand where we are and they know that we are committed and that government needs time to resolve the issues.

“Threats of strikes will not solve any problem . But we recognize the fact that there are issues, we promised that we are going to deal with these issues. You have to demonstrate love for Ekiti people because we have to satisfy government workers and those who are not. Government must take care of everyone. We are going to be open to you, we have made commitment that we are going to look at the issues, but if they down tools and go on strike, its not going to resolve the problem. I believe we can resolve some of the issues and reach some compromise through constructive engagement.

“ I’m confident in God that the prayers of our spiritual leaders, and with God all will be well with the state. I have no doubt in the ability of the God we are serving to reverse our situation, I know God will pass through Ekiti.
The event was also attended by the Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye, Wife of Governor, Dr Olayemi Oyebanji, Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. 2023: YEAR OF STRONG BEGINNING & GIANT LIFT~ SAYS GOV. BIODUN ABAYOMI OYEBANJI.
Being the Text of New Year 2023 State Broadcast by His Excellency, Mr. Abiodun Abayomi Oyebanji Governor of Ekiti State,  Nigeria

Government House| Ado-Ekiti | Sunday, January 1, 2023.

Introduction;
Ekiti Kete, it is with a heart full of thanksgiving that I address you today on the celebration of the beginning of the New Year 2023. We all are grateful to God for making us to see the dawn of this year which promises to be a glorious year of strong beginning for us - it is also a year of our great lift across board.

I want to heartily congratulate you on making it to the New Year in spite of the numerous challenges and threats that daily confront us as human beings. The miracle of daily existence in good health itself is a grace that must never be taken for granted. I therefore thank God for seeing us through into the year 2023 despite all the odds of the past years.

Let me also express my appreciation to you, the good people of Ekiti State for the privilege of electing me to serve you at this time as your governor. Since you elected me in June and my assumption of duty in October, it has been an exciting seventy-five days of service to Ekiti kete.

I therefore want to appreciate those who have been governors before me, and especially my immediate predecessor who handed me the baton, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, CON, Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo, CON and Dr. Peter Ayodele Fayose.

I also like to thank prominent sons and daughters of Ekiti State who have been of a great encouragement to our administration.  I have visited many of them and I am deeply grateful for their offer of support to our administration in whatever ways we have requested of them.

Similarly, I want to express my sincere appreciation to federal ministries and agencies, and departments many of whom I have visited and solicited their support for us in terms of collaboration and intervention. I am very grateful for their reception which is already yielding positive results for us.  We are also thankful to development partners for their sustained interest in our quest to meet and surpass the Sustainable Development Goals mandate. We will continue to strengthen our bond and collaboration in the New Year.

I want to sincerely register my profound appreciation to our people both home and abroad for their enthusiasm and cooperation since I assumed office. I am deeply touched by your show of love and solidarity through advice, prayers, suggestions and constructive criticisms.

STAyING THE COURSE OF OUR VISION AND MISSION;
Ekiti kete, you would recall that I campaigned on a manifesto that was anchored on six pillars, which have been carefully designed to position Ekiti for peace and prosperity. As I had indicated in my inauguration speech and at every forum, I have consistently reiterated that we are committed to these agenda because we are convinced they summarise our needs as a people and signpost our path to progress.

Consequently, both the supplementary budgets and the 2023 budget, already passed by the Ekiti State House of Assembly, have been projected to reflect the six-pillars and their actualisation. Already, the passage of the supplementary budget has empowered us to urgently intervene in some critical infrastructural renewal in the State. And just two days ago, I assented to the 2023 Appropriation Law as passed by the House of Assembly, an indication that we can  hit the ground running from today. I want to thank the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Olubunmi Adelugba and her honourable members for their cooperation.

Ekiti kete, since I assume duty, we have focused on our promises to you as contained in campaign manifesto. While it is too early to reel out our achievements in the last seventy-five days, I will want to assure you that we remain committed to our promises.

For the purpose of accountability, I will like to highlight the six-pillars, our efforts so far and the focus for the New Year.

Youth Development and Job Creation
We understand that the energy and creativity of the youths are the catalysts for the future greatness of our State, accordingly, plans are already in place on how to harness this resourceful segment of our population. Our objective is to enable employment and income generating opportunities that will engage our youths productively. In the New Year, our plan will begin to crystalise into policy and programmes that will create these opportunities for our youths.

Human Capital Development;
We are proud to note that Ekiti is one of the most educated and literate States in Nigeria. We are also proud of our record as the leading State in students’ enrolment in primary schools and the State with the best gender equality and mainstreaming policies and records. We hope to strengthen our hold in these areas and to ensure no one is left behind.

We will keep investing in our schools to make them globally comparable and competitive. To this end, we are working with different international partners, especially, World Bank’s IDEAS and AGILE programmes and other initiatives which have seen our schools receiving funds for renovation, training, equipment and infrastructural upgrade as well and digital and innovation development funding for both formal and informal educational system.

More importantly, we want to aggressively pursue the Ekiti Knowledge Zone agenda which hopes to create a smart city where technology, science and creativity become the currency of exchange.

We want to create an innovation and knowledge incubation ecosystem where our young people can hone their ICT competence and creative ingenuity. To achieve this, multipronged engagements are ongoing with investors, content creators, power providers and other stakeholders. Our hope is that in 2023, we will have begun the journey into creating a new economic landscape where knowledge is the black gold.

Similarly, our secondary health facilities are all undergoing serious upgrade and retooling so as to be able to functionally respond to the health needs of our people. For us, sound health and access to health facilities are central to wealth creation and prosperity. In the New Year, we will expedite effort on this and ensure all our health facilities at all levels are accessible, available, affordable and in good shape. We want to jealously preserve our record as the state with the highest life expectancy rate in Nigeria, we will continue to strengthen our primary, secondary and tertiary health system to keep this trophy.

Government is deeply concerned about the exodus of our health and medical professionals to other climes due to obvious present challenges. I am however glad to assure them that Government will look into the issues with a view to reversing the trend in the New Year. We appreciate their enormous sacrifices and will be willing to see to how things can be made better.

We are also in discussion with critical government agencies to facilitate access to cheaper funds to support the growth of MSME in the State. The vision is to ensure that our Artisans, Market Women and Private Sector Players are linked up with cheaper funds to support their businesses. The State Ministry of Investment, Trade and Innovation (ITI) is working on a comprehensive strategy to be unveiled in due course.

We are also working on a comprehensive sport development strategy that will re-position sporting activities in the State. I am using this medium to congratulate our sport Ambassadors for their commendable outing at the just concluded National Sport Festival. Our promise of a Sport Commission is on course. The Office of the Attorney-General is working on the legal framework for implementation.

Agriculture and Rural Development
Agriculture remains the mainstay of our economy in Ekiti. It employs a large number of our people but it contributes abysmally to our internally generated revenue and remains a profession of last resort for many people.

Presently, our focus is to continue to attract more commercial farmers who have the financial capacity to acquire the necessary technologies that can cultivate large expanse of land and engage in profitable agriculture venture. This will positively impact our smallholder farmers who can benefit from off-taker deal and access to financing, technology transfer and collaboration. This is expected to create massive employment and lead to prosperity in this sector.

We are thankful to investors who are already in Ekiti for their confidence in our State. We will continue to create the enabling environment for them to thrive without let and hindrance. Already, our team is working assiduously to ensure that both our native and commercial farmers are given the necessary support to increase their productivity.

In 2023, plans are ongoing on how to further bring more agripreneurs to the State, this will lead to the full realisation of the thinking that led to the establishment of  the Ekiti Cargo Airport. Our long term goal as a State is to make our State the foremost entity for agro-allied export to the international market.

Infrastructure & Industrialization
Accelerating the development of key infrastructure is critical to our economic development plan. Power, water, sanitation, hygiene and transportation infrastructure are critical to the realisation of our prosperity goal. We cannot go far without deliberate investment in these sectors. They are the key priority sectors that will improve our competitiveness and generate positive economic and social outcome for our people.

Our commitment is evident in the administration’s aggressive pursuit of road infrastructure renewal in Ado Ekiti metropolis which has seen to the ongoing rehabilitation of major and nodal roads. Similarly, we are currently undergoing massive deployment of street lights in the capital city as the first port of call in the Light-up Ekiti Initiative. We will begin to replicate the same in all towns and villages as we progress into the year 2023.

In addition to our infrastructural initiatives, we are keeping faith with the quick completion of ongoing projects which are all important to the growth and development of our dear State.

Arts, Culture & Tourism;
As we look to diversify our economy, we will focus on tourism, arts and culture to grow our economy, provide employment and create jobs for our people. Our detailed tourism strategy will be announced soon. It is also a thing of pride that Ekiti Performing Company has continued to win laurels and applause to the admiration of all in major national art competitions. Beyond this however, is the commendable transformation that is currently happening at the Ikogosi War Springs which has been concessioned to a private company to rebuild, expand and manage. I am very excited about the progress that has visited the Springs within this short time. I am using this opportunity to commend Glocient Hospitality for the ongoing transformation of the resort and to promise strong government support going forward.

The Warm Springs remains Ekiti’s most iconic tourism springboard for the tourism potential of the State. With the level of work going on, I am convinced that Ikogosi Warm Springs and Arinta Water Fall will be back in the international tourism site in 2023, bigger and better.  We shall also embark on the development of other heritage sites in the State.

Governance;
For us, governance is the totality of what we do and how we do it to achieve our set objectives. Therefore, governance, is the connecting rod of all other pillars. It is the bedrock upon which all our plans are situated. We are working on innovative reforms that will lead to gradual and full digitisation of government activities as we inch towards implementation of e-government as part of our aspiration to bring about transformative and innovative solution to government businesses.

We are committed to open and transparent processes that ensure government businesses are conducted in an effective, smart and efficient manner, and that government is very responsible and responsive to the yearnings of stakeholders. In the New Year, as we implement some of the reforms, our workers, who are the greatest assets in the development mix of our State, will continue to get the best in trainings, exposures and improvement courses to get them up-to-date.

We are also irrevocably committed to the welfare of our workers as we will continue to ensure that salaries and allowances are paid as and when due. Indeed, it is our greatest desire that our workers receive more decent wages and live better life in this year. Therefore, the welfare of our workers remains an item of first priority for us at all time.

On the issues of outstanding salaries and allowances, government is working out a modality to address this issue. We believe that people deserve their wages which they had sweated to earn.  We are therefore working hard to create a more labour friendly working environment for our workers. Similarly, we have started engaging the pensioners and labour leaders generally, on the best way to address the burden of outstanding salaries, promotion, bonuses, allowances, pension and gratuity. I am sure an amicable and workable solution is on the way.

We need to cooperatively come to a workable and honest conversation on how to deal with our revenue challenge going forward. I must however note that there is no easy ways without making sacrifices where necessary. We must also be ready to support the efforts of the State Board of Internal Revenue Service at increasing the State’s Internally Generated Revenue by performing our civic responsibilities willingly.

The Judiciary will also be given adequate attention to ensure quick dispensation of justice through a systematic approach to the condition of service of judicial officers and the provision of conducive atmosphere to aid smooth administration of justice.

We shall continue to support and retool our security architecture to adequately respond to the current challenges as it relates to criminality and kidnapping in the State. We are very concerned at the rate of kidnapping, especially in Ipao, Itapaji, Irele, Oke Ako and Iyemero axis of the State. We shall not rest on oars until we put an end to their activities in the State. While commending the security agencies for their gallantry, I therefore enjoin them to scale up their responses to make the State safer.

In Conclusion;
Since we came on board seventy-five days ago, we have focused our energy on connecting and mobilising all available human and material resources that are necessary to the actualisation of our plans. I have brought on board a team of proven professional of very solid accomplishment to help lay the policy and strategy foundation for the administration. I am proud of what they have done so far and I look forward to greater successes in the coming year.

We hope by the time we bring on board more people to function in government as political heads of ministry, boards and departments of government, we will have created the necessary mandate structure and operating system that will be of tremendous benefit to our people.

Ekiti-kete, as you are aware, year 2023 is an election year. I hereby appeal to all political parties to maintain absolute peace as we embark on electioneering.

I also solicit your support for our presidential candidate Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and our National and State House of Assemblies candidates. There is no gainsaying the fact that these elections will aid the implementation of our policies and programmes in Ekiti State.

I am very optimistic that 2023 will be a year of giant lift for us and our State. We are going to witness massive improvement in security, infrastructure and government services than we have ever seen.

As I end this first New Year address as your governor, I want to thank our traditional, religious and community leaders for the critical roles they play at all times. I would like to continue to solicit their support and cooperation in the New Year.  I thank everyone who has been of help in the past, just as we look forward to more opportunities for assistance and cooperation in year 2023.

Let us remain united in our efforts to keep Ekiti working.

Thank you. Happy and prosperous New Year for you all.
God bless Ekiti State!
