BRIEF HISTORY OF THE GBAGYI PEOPLE

BRIEF HISTORY OF THE GBAGYI PEOPLE

Gbagyi or Gwari (also spelled Gbari) are peaceful, agriculturalist, artistic and Nupoid-speaking people living in North-Central geo-political zone of Nigeria. They predominantly live in the Niger, Kaduna States and the Federal Capital Territory.
They are also found in Nasarawa and Kogi States in central Nigerian Area. Gbagyi is the most populated ethnic Group and indigenous in the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria, where their major occupation is farming.

According to oral tradition, the first settler was a hunter who went to hunt in Paikokun land, a thick forest in Abuja. Paikokun was the name of the mountain where the first settler inhabited. The Gbagyi people initially used to live on mountain tops because they believed they were safer on the mountain than at the plain before western civilization made most of them relocate to the plain.

HOW TO SPOT GBAGYI
Very unique to the Gbagyi women is the placing of goods however heavy on their shoulder. They believe the head represents the king of the entire body, hence, it should not be disturbed. They call the part of their body they place their goods as Bwapa. They also believe the load feel lighter on their shoulders than on their heads. It is very much still in practice till date.

Marriage among the people of Gbagyi is soaked in deep tradition. When a man announces his interest in a woman, he would have to serve 7 years in the bride’s father’s farm, labouring and supplying grains and other produce to the bride’s house in order for her to be well fed. Nowadays, the groom simply pay the bride’s price instead of serving 7 years in the bride’s father’s house.

RELIGION
In their traditional religion, some Gbayi believe in a God called Shekwoi, the one who was there before their ancestors, but they also devote themselves to appeasing deities of the god such as Maigiro. Indigenously, their main religion is Knunu, which they believe protects them from the evil that exist in the community.

FOOD
The Gwari people enjoy eating a meal known as Wyizhe. It is made from Guinean corn which is also used to make a special drink known as Zhepwo. The Gwari people also enjoy drinking a soup known as Knadolo made from locust beans.

CLOTHING
The Gbagyi people wear tie and dye clothing known as Ajeside, made from local cotton and traditional woven and dyed.

CLEMENT ONYEMELUKWE: THE MAN WHO DESIGNED NIGERIAN NATIONAL GRID.

CLEMENT ONYEMELUKWE: THE MAN WHO DESIGNED NIGERIAN NATIONAL GRID.
“Father of Electricity” in Nigeria!

All you need to know out him:
Onyemelukwe initiated the planning and development of the electricity grid still used in Nigeria today when he became Chief Electrical Engineer in 1962. Clement Onyemelukwe, Nigerian Chief Electrical Engineer of the country's Electricity Corporation, generated international attention when he married Catherine Zastrow, a white Peace Corps volunteer, who had just completed her service in 1964.

Although his parents had rejoiced that he had returned from nine years in the United Kingdom without a foreign white wife, in 1963 he met Catherine in Lagos.

“Peace Corps Worker to Wed Nigerian Engineer,” was the headline for a brief article in The New York Times from Lagos, Nigeria on Dec. 23, 1964. Interracial marriage was illegal in Kentucky which was still Catherine's U.S. residence while she was in the Peace Corps.

“When her parents returned to Kentucky after the wedding they had to change their phone number because of hate calls. The couple received telegrams from people all over the world, mostly supportive but a few critical. A photo of the wedding appeared in Life Magazine in January 1965 and was also noted in Ebony Magazine.”

Onyemelukwe initiated the planning and development of the electricity grid still used in Nigeria today when he became Chief Electrical Engineer in 1962.

He left the electricity industry to found Freeman Engineering in Lagos in 1973. In 1976 he founded Colechurch International Ltd, a project management and promotion company, in United Kingdom. He and his wife Catherine moved to Westport in 1993.

He initially held a residence card, known as a "green card," as he was spending a good part of his time in his home country Nigeria on business. In 2007 he finally became an American citizen. He was a speaker at the Y's Men and an active library user while working on his latest book or researching business ideas.

He passed on at age 86 in March 2020.
He is survived by his wife Catherine, their three children, Chinakueze, Elizabeth, and Samuel, and five grandchildren, Kenechi, Nkiru, Teya, Bruche and Ikem.

BALOGUN ODERINLO OF IBADAN THE NEMESIS OF FULANI.

BALOGUN ODERINLO OF IBADAN THE NEMESIS OF FULANI.
Source: Gossip House

The Statue of Bashorun Oderinlo

After Bashorun Oluyole’s death. Oderinlo who was his Balogun was next in line to succeed him. Because of the purges and wars that Oluyole engineered during his time as the leader of Ibadan, all the chiefs that were senior to Oderinlo had died before Oluyole or soon after Oluyole’s own death. So there was practically no rival to Oderinlo’s position as Balogun and ruler of the town.

Oderinlo rose to prominence as one of the chiefs who played an active role in the rebellion against Lakanle and the latter’s subsequent suicide. There seemed to have been some form of close ties between him and Oluyole. It is likely to Oderinlo was at least an associate if not a close friend of the Bashorun. It was the influence of Oluyole that he became the Otun Balogun to Bankole Aleshinloye, the first Balogun under Oluyole. After Aleshinloye’s death, Oderinlo became the Balogun. Oderinlo was the Balogun who led the Ibadan troops to fight in the second Ibadan- Ilorin war at Osogbo, a war that Ibadan won comprehensively.

The Army of Ibadan equally attacked Ilesa to rescue Oshogbo. From that war, the Ibadan Army ventured into Ekiti for the relief of Otun, which was attacked by Ilorin Army. They also fought in Ara to reinstate the Alara who was then having problems with his people. He was among the six generals who plotted against Oluyole after that campaign. He was also among the four who later rescinded that decision, leaving the two who did not rescind, Lajubu and Akinluyi to die in a purge by the Bashorun.

At the time Bashorun Oluyole died, Balogun Oderinlo was planning to go on a war to Oke Ogun. So when the entire council of Ibadan invited him to become the Baale He declined, saying he wanted to win that war first. Historians speculate that he wanted to gather the wealth from that war to boost his claim to the rulership of Ibadan at the time.

Balogun Oderinlo went to the war and came back. He won the war and gathered enough loot and slaves to bring back to Ibadan. However, a few months after his triumphant return to Ibadan from Oke Ogun, as he was set to be announced as the Baale of Ibadan, Balogun Oderinlo died mysteriously. To this day nobody knows how Balogun Oderinlo died, but the sudden and mysterious nature of his death has led many to speculate that he may have been poisoned. But no body could pinpoint who did the warrior the fatal blow.

After his demise, Baale Opeagbe replaced him on the throne of Ibadan. Balogun Oderinlo has been honoured in Ibadan, a statue of him stands at Beere not far from Mapo Hall and the statue of Bashorun Oluyole. His house and some of his descendants live not far from Oja’ba to this day.

Ekiti government reels out achievements of Fayemi’s four years in office.

Ekiti government reels out achievements of Fayemi’s four years in office.
msoluwayem. ado-ekiti

The Ekiti State Government has said the outgoing governor of the state, Dr Kayode Fayemi has performed creditably well in the last four years in office.

The government justified its claims saying it has constructed a total of 139 kilometres of roads, while it also undertook some palliatives on the dilapidated federal roads to make them accessible for motorists.

Hon Akin Omole, the Commissioner for Information spoke on Friday, at the press conference heralding the 4th anniversary and valedictory ceremonies of the Kayode Fayemi administration and inauguration of Hon. Biodun Oyebanji, with the theme: “Finishing well”.

Omole added that the current government had rehabilitated 14 general and state hospitals and had also initiated operation one primary healthcare per- ward, in line with the design of national healthcare policy.

“Ekiti International Agro-Allied Cargo Airport is a dream come true, not only for this administration, but also for Ekiti-kete and for the generation yet unborn. Though projected to be an Agro-Based Cargo Airport, this does not foreclose commercial passenger operation.

“The Airport boast is CA5-9 4E category with capacity for Aircraft Boeing 747-400 and a runway length of 3.2km”.

Omole added that within the period under review, Fayemi government had completed projects which include dual-lane new Ado-Iyin road; construction of Ekiti State Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja; reconstruction of Agbado-Ode-Isinbode road; construction of Aramoko-Erijiyan-Ikogosi road; construction of Oye-Ayede-Iye -Otun road and ; construction of Ilupeju-Ire-Igbemo-road.

During the period, Omole said the government also undertook massive renovation works at the General Hospitals Emure, Aramoko, Ode, Oye, Otun, Ijero, Ikere, Ikole, Ise, Iyin and Omuo-Ekiti, to buoy healthcare delivery to the citizens.

“They include: Harding Memorial College, Oke-Isa, Ado-Ekiti. New SUBEB Headquarters, Secretariat Complex, Ado-Ekiti, EKZ Model School, Ijan-Road, Ado-Ekiti, Model School, Isan-Ekiti. Ekiti State Agro-Cargo International Airport, Ado-Ijan Way, Ado-Ekiti. Ikole Township Roads ((Bolorunduro Street—0.67km, Ave. width 5.7m; Olokonla Dualisation—1.6km, Ave. width 11.75m; Dualised road section—1.1km, Ave. width 12m”.

In the transport sector, the Commissioner revealed that the government had constructed a Bus Terminal and Pedestrian Walkway/Drain Cover along Ijigbo-Okeyinmi Roundabout in Ado-Ekiti Central Business Area, while also making lives comfortable for the elderly by building Old people’s Resort, Ado-Ekiti.

Giving reasons for why it failed to defray the N57 billion unpaid salaries, gratuities and pensions of workers and retirees as promised in 2018, hinging this on recurrent economic downturn being experienced by the state .

He said the parlous states of the federal roads in Ekiti was due to increased traffic from adjoining states, especially upsurge of haulage businesses and cross border trucks, which he said piled pressures on some of the highways to cave in.

“As at 2018 when Governor Kayode Fayemi came on board, he said that he had the intention of paying all these arrears, but budget support fund, Paris club, excess crude and other funds we were getting from the FG stopped and we were only collecting monthly allocation. That was what actually stopped us from fulfilling this promise.

“We were still able to pay a part of it. We paid two out of the salary arrears. If our predecessor, who collected all these funds could not pay, then we should ask questions. It is not our intention not to pay all these arrears. But we are glad that we have a government that is coming after us. If there are areas where we have not fulfilled our promises, the next government will start from there”.

He added that the state government is making efforts to tackle the menace of insecurity in the state, saying administrative bottlenecks was hindering the purchase of the much touted Drone to monitor the forests and checkmate marauding criminals.

The Commissioner appealed to the federal government to focus attention on the deplorable Federal roads, saying the government would not rest until the needful is done in this regard..

JKF... Finishing well and keep Ekiti Working.

We Believe In One Nigeria, But We Cannot Have One Country, Two Systems.

We Believe In One Nigeria, But We Cannot Have One Country, Two Systems.
Arakunrin Oluwarotimi O. Akeredolu, SAN,
Governor, Ondo State.

The video making the rounds showing the equivalent of the Western Nigeria Security Network (Amotekun Corps) in Katsina, obtaining the approval of the Federal Government to bear arms is fraught with great dangers. Denying Amotekun the urgently needed rights, to legitimately bear arms is a repudiation of the basis of true federalism which we have been clamoring for.

That Katsina was able to arm its state security force, with the display of AK47 means we are pursuing one country, two systems " solution to the national question. If the katsina situation conferring advantages on some, in the face of commonly faced existential threats, it means that our unitary policing system, which has failed, is a deliberate method of subjugation which must be challenged.

The Independence agreement was based on a democratic arrangement to have a federal state and devolved internal security mechanics. We must go back to that agreement. Denying Amotekun the right to bear arms exposes the Southwest to life-threatening marauders and organized crime. It is also a deliberate destruction of our agricultural sector. It is an existential threat.

We want to reiterate, that what is sauce for the goose, is sauce for the gander. Ondo State government under the doctrine of necessity have decided to fulfil its legal, constitutional and moral duty to the citizens of the State, by acquiring arms to protect them. This is more so, given that the bandits have an unchecked access to sophisticated weapons. The State government cannot look on while its citizens are being terrorized and murdered with impunity. We will defend our people.

Signed:
Arakunrin Oluwarotimi O. Akeredolu, SAN,
Governor, Ondo State.

HISTORY OF A WARRIOR NAME ARO IN ILARO TOWN IN OGUN STATE.
..the Ilaro people celebrate the Oronna festival annually to preserve, uphold, and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Ilaro Kingdom.

Ilaro town was founded about 14th century by Aro who migrated from a state Oyo town to settle down in Igbo Aje, a little hill situated at the centre of the town from where he and his warriors could sight enemies (mostly slave traders from the neighbouring Benin republic known then as Dahomey) on attack from a long distance. Aro himself was a warrior and a hunter to be reckoned with. Ilaro had her name from "Ilu Aro" meaning the settlement of Aro which later became Ilaro for ease of pronunciation. We Wouldn't Open Ward 15 APC Odo-Otin North Secretariat, If The Governor And Party Chairman Didn't Come To Our Rescue.~ APC Ward 15 Exco.

We Wouldn't Open Ward 15 APC Odo-Otin North Secretariat, If The Governor And Party Chairman Didn't Come To Our Rescue.~ APC Ward 15 Exco.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) members in Ward 15 Odo-Otin North have closed down their party Secretariat in Odo-Otin Oyan. The only ward that delivered for the party in Odo-otin North during the last gubernatorial election has vowed to step aside from the party activities untill party Chairman Prince Gboyega Famodun, His Excellency Alh. Isiaka Gboyega Oyetola and our amiable party Leaders come to our rescue.

In a statement released to the press during the Party Exco, and signed by their ward Chairman Hon Kolawole Suleman and Spokesman for the ward 15 Comrade Abubkre Lukman and made available to the press said, the ward 15 has been rubbed for so many times, the Chairmannship slot which is supposed to come to the Ward 15 has been retained at Ward 14 with the intervention of some respected Leaders both at state and local levels. We agreed on this, because of the respect we have for the party supremacy and the leaders.

It was very sad that, the party collected ticket from the only performing councillor whose Ward is enjoying and the only councillor that is funding the party at local and Ward level at where we have non performing Serving State Assembly Member. Hon. Micheal Adetoyi. He is looking for all means to deny Hon. Suleman Olowookere  AKA (Kogan) return ticket through the imposition and sponsorship by Hon. Michael Adetoyi Member Osun State House of Assembly.
Hon. Suleman Olowookere  ward 15 Odo-Otin councillor is a blessing to the people of ward 15 and Oyan at large. He is performing than Hon Micheal Adetoyi who is representing Odo-Otin State Assembly. We can say that, Odo-Otin has no representative in this present State Assembly. We want the party to ask Hon Adetoyi Micheal what has he done for us in Odo-Otin since  his tenure as a member of Osun State House of Assembly.
The Councillor which Hon. Adetoyi Micheal used his office to remove and replaced him with is Hon. Oyekanmi Zuzann

Hon. Olowookere a Councillor of Ward 15 has been donating 50,000 to ward in every month without missing any month as caretaker Councillor. He filled the old age in the party in every month.

The part in Ward 15 has the record of every members who have represented by one position or the others. No one ever has the record or bit the performance of Hon. Suleman Olowookere in the history of Ward 15 Representatives. The Exco also warned Hon. Michael Adetoyi not to attribute his failure to get the return ticket of House of Assembly to Hon. Suleman Olowookere popularlly known as (KOGAN,) but to his lack of performance in Office.

If the party refuses to take urgent action on this, we will remain in the party but we wouldn't participate in any party activities including in all the forthcoming elections. Because, Hon Michael Adetoyi has no electoral values in Osun Politics especially Odo-Otin which he said he is representing.
The statement concluded.

Ejiofor Cindy Chisom, President, NYSC Medical and Health Community Developments Service (CDS) Group in Ihiala Local Government Area disclosed that the sensitization workshop is aimed at sensitizing most especially the pregnant women on some common psychosocial and pathological issues that affect the well-being of the modern day woman and as well as to enlighten old women's on how to take good care of themselves during the old age.

According to her, "Prenatal education promotes the maintenance of healthy lifestyles during pregnancy, helping expectant mothers manage stress, support a healthy diet, avoid harmful chemicals and situations, recognize warning signs and symptoms that mean something may be wrong with their pregnancy, and prepare for labor and delivery, she explained".

Some Health care practitioners who speaks at the occasion made it known that regular check-ups can help find potential health issues before they become a problem.
"When you see your doctor regularly, they are able to detect health conditions or diseases early. Early detection gives you the best chance for getting the right treatment quickly, avoiding any complications. By getting the correct health services, screenings, and treatment you are taking important steps toward living a longer, healthier life.
"Attaining the goal of appropriate medical care for older women requires knowledge of the changes of aging, skills in recognition and treatment of disease, and an effort to provide help and avoid harm. Latrogenic disorders are particularly problematic in all elderly, due to decreased stress tolerance, increased prevalence of illness, and atypical presentations of disease. Iatrogenic disorders are most commonly due to drugs; elderly women are particularly at risk due to altered pharmacokinetics, multiple medical problems, difficulties with compliance, and inappropriate prescribing practices by physicians, they explained ".

As part of the programme, drugs were given out to the participants.
The impact of the program will forever remain in the heart of the community occupants.

THE IGBO PYRAMIDS

THE IGBO PYRAMIDS
...built with hardened red mud and clay.
Most people have never heard of it. On the highlands of Udi in Enugu state, the Nsude pyramids which is also known as the Igbo pyramids once stood as a testimony to Black Africa’s level of cultural enlightenment.

Built with hardened red mud and clay, the structures lasted centuries until the 1930s when degradation followed by years of negligence, so much that today only their faint outlines can be traced.

A report on the monuments published in Wikipedia describes them as “one of the unique structures of Igbo culture”.

In 1935, British anthropologist and colonial administrator, G. I. Jones, took pictures of the pyramids when he was building up an extraordinary photographic record of Southeastern Nigerian culture when he stumbled upon the clay formed wonders.

Armed with his Roloflex camera, Jones took shots of the 10 circular stepped pyramids. The Nsude pyramids are however yet to be carbon dated, but judging by the black and white photos (taken in 1935), they are 'very old'.

The first base section was 60 ft. in circumference and 3 ft. in height. The next stack was 45 ft. in circumference. Circular stacks continued, till it reached the top. The structures were temples for the god Ala/Uto, who was believed to reside at the top.

A stick was placed at the top to represent the god’s residence. The structures were laid in groups of five parallel to each other. Because it was built of mud like the Deffufa of Nubia, time has already taken its toll on it.

Strikingly, these pyramids bear resemblance to the Step Pyramid of Saqqara, in Egypt constructed in 2648 BC. More fascinating is the similar replication of Nubian-like pyramids thousands of miles away from the Nubian area in the heart of Igboland.

Evidence like this indicates a strong level of correlation between the ancient Egyptians and the ancient Igbo.

Community leaders and historians have appealed in the past for the restoration of the circular pyramids. Unless the government takes appropriate steps to reconstruct them, that historical monument will remain, perhaps, one of black Africa’s greatest losses to world civilization.

STORY OF SOSOLISO PLANE CRASHED IN PORT HARCOURT.
...the Nigerian-owned Sosoliso was established in 1994.
On December 10, 2005, Sosoliso Airlines Flight 1145 was on a scheduled domestic passenger flight. The flight was between Abuja and Port Harcourt.

The captain of the McDonnell Douglas DC-9-32 was Benjamin Adekunle Adebayo. He was a 48-year-old pilot with a total flying experience of 10,050 hours with 1,900 of them on the DC-9.

At about 14:08 local time, the aircraft crash-landed at Port Harcourt International Airport. The aircraft was carrying 110 people when it crashed while landing in stormy weather in the oil city of Port Harcourt.

The plane slammed into the ground and burst into flames. Of the 103 passengers and 7 crew members there were only two survivors, although seven survivors were initially rescued.

Many passengers survived the initial impact but died in the resulting fire.  Other passengers later died from their injuries.

Port Harcourt Airport had one fire truck and no ambulances. None of 7 crew members survived the crash. Among the passengers were about sixty secondary school students from Loyola Jesuit College in Abuja.
Out of the 60 teenagers from the school, 59 were killed, with Kechi Okwuchi (@Kechi ) being the only survivor from her school.

Kechi was treated at Milpark Hospital in Joburg, South Africa and at Shriners Hospitals for Children in Galveston, Texas, United States. Kechi later went on to take part in the twelfth season of America’s Got Talent in 2017 as a singer, and finished the competition as a finalist.

THE STORY OF KEN SARO-WIWA (1941-1995).

THE STORY OF  KEN SARO-WIWA (1941-1995).
He received the honorary title “Saro,” meaning “eldest son.”
Kenule, or Ken, Saro-Wiwa was an environmental activist, author, and television producer. He was born in Bori, a small town in the Niger Delta; his father, Jim Wiwa, was a chief of the Ogoni people, an ethnic minority in the Delta region. He received the honorary title “Saro,” meaning “eldest son.”

In the 1950s, Wiwa witnessed the initial entrance of foreign oil companies and the beginning of the extraction of crude oil in the Niger Delta region. Excelling in school at a young age, he left the Niger Delta to attend the Government College in Umuahia in Eastern Nigeria,on a scholarship to study English. He attended the University of Ibadan, where he received an honors degree in English.

Wiwa was there when the Nigerian Civil War began in 1967 and for the duration of the war he supported the Nigerian opposition to the Biafrans. Despite his opposition to the civil war, Wiwa was appointed administrator of the oil depot at Bonny Island in the Niger Delta in 1968. In 1969, he became the regional commissioner for education in the Rivers State Cabinet but was dismissed from his position in 1973 after he began calling for autonomy for the Ogoni people. His writings became increasingly political, bringing national and international attention to the Ogoni’s struggle.

During the mid 1980s, Wiwa primarily concentrated on writing, publishing, and television production. His first book Sozaboy: A Novel in Rotten English, published in 1985, was a fictionalized account of the corrupt Nigerian army during the civil war. In 1989, he released his war diaries in a book titled On a Darkling Plain. He wrote two novels that explored the position of women in Nigerian society, Adaku and Other Stories, published in 1989 and Lemona’s Tale, published posthumously in 1996. Wiwa additionally tried his hand in television. He produced the popular series Basi & Company that ran from 1985 until 1992, when it was canceled by the military dictatorship.

By the early 1990s, Wiwa shifted his focus from literature and television to issues of human rights and environmental preservation, particularly in his home region Ogoniland, the center of crude oil extraction by multinational corporations operating in Nigeria.

He established and led the Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP) and relatedly, the campaigns against the Royal Dutch Shell Company, demanding that the company share the profits of oil extraction.

In January 1993, Wiwa and the MOSOP lead a series of peaceful marches in which an estimated 300,000 Ogoni people participated. For the first time the marches drew significant international attention to the plight of the Ogoni. After a series of arrests in 1992 and 1993, Wiwa was among nine Ogoni human rights and environmental activists who were tried in a kangaroo court by the military government of General Sani Abachi and hanged on November 10, 1995.

The Royal Dutch Shell Company was implicated in the execution of Ken Saro-Wiwa and on June 8, 2009, the company agreed to a settlement of $15.5 million, ending a series of lawsuits that accused it of financing and providing logistical support for the execution.

Despite the settlement, Shell denied any connection to the death of Ken Saro-Wiwa.

THE STORY OF SHINA RAMBO – ONE OF THE MOST NOTORIOUS ARMED ROBBER IN NIGERIA HISTORY.

THE STORY OF SHINA RAMBO – ONE OF THE MOST NOTORIOUS ARMED ROBBER IN NIGERIA HISTORY.
...I was rich, but anything the devil gives you never lasts, he will collect more from you.
Shina Rambo is a former bandit who terrorised South-West Nigeria in the 1990s. After serving jail-time for his crimes, he was converted by an evangelist and became a Christian evangelical pastor. Shina Rambo now Mathew Oluwanifemi was a name that sent shivers down the spine of people who lived in the South West of Nigeria and even outside Nigeria, like Benin Republic and neighborhood, in the 1990s.

He was a hardened criminal, a terror and killer, one whom men of the security agencies will never forget in a haste.

A man mountain, towering about 6 ft 5inch, well built, dark skinned and sweltering eyes, he carried out his operations, like a movie, in the broad day light, with sophisticated weapons, and bullet belts and explosives strapped roundabout him. He specialized in robbing exotic cars on highways and robbing banks. Nothing could stop him, not even security operatives, he was totally invincible. He was Shina Rambo!

He was born in the year 1958 to a military man who was a bad egg in the service. His father was from Abeokuta in Ogun state, but his mother was a native of Sabongida–Ora in Edo state. His father had over 18 wives, as was the norm for soldiers to impregnate virtually every woman they met where they were posted to. His father used his military influence to rob innocent citizens, and always brought huge amount of money home. This used to entice little Shina. He recalls, “I remembered when I was about 7 years old, my father came home with a lot of money, foreign currencies, with blood on it, and they were using something like a woman’s scarf to wipe it, then I asked him, is this an animal’s blood, or human blood? But he wouldn’t answer me, they were just drinking, smoking, and merry making.

”Shina was already indoctrinated into the underworld by his father at a tender age of 7 without him knowing it, as he would sit in front of his son, to dismantle and assemble all sorts of weapons and then polishing them in preparation for an operation. This went on for so long till one day, little Shina, entered into his father’s room while he had stepped into the toilet, and saw a dismembered gun on the floor. He sat down in front of it, and bit by bit, he had assembled it effortlessly in no time at all. His father came out of the toilet, and saw his son, with a loaded gun in his hands. Shina flashed back and said, “That day my father was so disappointed, that he wanted to kill me, he grabbed the gun from my hand and shot straight at me, but I miraculously escaped out of the room. Then he waited for me to be less alert at night he came to my room with a machete and tried to behead me, but once again, I escaped, but the machete caught my left leg (he rolled up his trouser to show us the large scar, that made everyone sighed in pity). It cut me so deep I thought I was never going to walk again.

That day I knew I had graduated, all that was left was to pull the trigger, and I was so eager. Shina Rambo became so notorious in no time, and was hell bent on succeeding in his career as an armed robber, that he went through any length to secure spiritual powers for fortification.

To the extent of pounding over 27 live new born babies in the mortar with a pestle, cutting off about 100 human tongues and cooking them to eat, visiting the spiritual river called river of life in Ogoja, Cross Rivers State, living in an Iroko tree for days, and sleeping in the cemetery.

He was given a spiritual wife who always followed him for any operation, she dressed like an Alhaja, people thought she was human, but she was a spirit, that was why they never saw her face. He said she was his personal driver, that she could drive from Nigeria to Cotonou, in the speed of light.

Hear him. ”I was involved in so many rituals, that I can’t start naming them now, I was so powerful, I went underground, inside trees that looked like a city, a lot of beautiful houses inside the tree, I had my own too. I went into a river called River of life in Ogoja, where a lot of politicians and wealthy men used to come. I had several personalities, I could change my form whenever I wanted to, that’s why the police were busy killing innocent people, and thought they were killing Shina Rambo.

The 9 herbalists that gave me that power, I became stronger than them, one day I went to their shrines, and killed all of them, so that they don’t reveal my secrets. I had too many powers; my spiritual wife could drive any car in this world or out of it, no police vehicle, or anyone for that matter, could ever chase and catch me during an operation. She was out of this world, and when she had completed her operation, they took her away from me. I could give anything to get powers, and the elders knew, so they also gave me anything I wanted. I once beheaded hundred men, and gave them the heads fresh, they were so happy with me that they made me invincible.

No matter the kind of bullet you shot at me, it was just like pure water on my body. I could give anything to get power, but of all the things I did to get power, the one that still breaks my heart the most, is sleeping with my mother. My father is dead now, but my mother is still alive, and she lives with me she is 85 years old. Whenever I set my eyes on her, I just start crying. I can’t bear it.

Shina Rambo was a raging terror, he was infallibly dangerous, the police dreaded him, both in Nigeria, and Benin Republic, his place of interest for business. He would go to police stations, in broad daylight and kill every policeman there, drive to check points and open fire on every policeman on duty, he didn’t like the police at all, and was never afraid of them, he operated in broad day light armed to the teeth looking like Johny Rambo, in the popular Sylvester Stalone movie, “First Blood”.

He once robbed 40 exotic cars in one day and drove all of them in a convoy, from Lagos to Cotonou, unstopped. He was powerful; he was wealthy, and impenetrable. He was a tin god, apparently belched from the very arroyo hell, we all dreaded him. He had a wife and three children, but he lost all of them in one day during a bloody police raid whilst he was away on operation. His wife was his stabilizing factor his life changed afterwards. He says “my wife was everything to me, I was forbidden by the elders to sleep with any other woman apart from her. I could gather about 50 women around me in a hotel, and they will just be playing with me. We would smoke, drink, and sniff cocaine, I will give them money but I will never sleep with them. I will go back home to my wife and sleep with her. That was why the police never caught me. She knew my job, she knew what I was and I never left them alone at night, I operated in the day time and go back home to my family at night.

I had everything, I was very wealthy, I sometimes spent 50 million naira in a day, I did that a lot. There was one day that we were coming from an operation and it seemed as if my powers were going to fail me, the police and the army were almost closing in on us, so we had to drive into a crowd and threw millions of naira in the air, there was commotion, everybody was busy picking naira notes even the police, until we escaped.

I was too rich, but anything the devil gives you never lasts, he will collect more from you, it’s only the devil that will give you Fila, (cap) and ask for Iro and Buba (wrapper and top). I lost everything, all the money, my family; I was so powerful the police couldn’t catch me but I lost it all. I had to surrender myself to the police and I was arrested and jailed for 11 years. While I was serving my jail term in Agodi prisons, Ibadan, Prophet T.O Obadare came visiting, and having been encouraged several times by the Christian brothers and sisters in the prison to give my life to Christ, he prayed for me and converted me, and changed my name to Oluwanifemi, and it was so miraculous, the next day I woke up and started speaking in tongues. It was during the time of President Olusegun Obasanjo, that we were granted freedom.
I was rich, but anything the devil gives you never lasts, he will collect more from you, he said.

Fayemi lifts three technical schools with over N300 million in World Bank –assisted IDEAS project.

Fayemi lifts three technical schools with over N300 million in World Bank –assisted IDEAS project.
...the Governor assured the people that his administration is more committed to providing enabling environment for developmental projects in the State.
Three Technical Colleges in Ekiti State have benefitted from the World Bank assisted IDEAS project to the tune of over $250,000 (over 105 million naira) each to enhance the capacity of the Nigerian skills development system to produce relevant skills for the formal and informal sectors.

Presenting the cheques to the benefitting colleges at an elaborate ceremony in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday, Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, who, noted that the success of the project depends largely on the perception of all Ekiti people, especially the three host communities, implored everyone to embrace it and partake in the activities so that many people can benefit from the intervention.

The benefitting colleges were Government Technical Colleges, Otun, Government Technical College, Ijero and Government technical College, Igbara Odo, They got $250,000 each.

The Governor who made the presentation further assured the people that his administration is more committed to providing enabling environment for developmental projects in the State hence charged all partakers to adhere strictly to all the Bank’s guidelines in the course of project implementation.

Dr Fayemi who was elated at the World Bank IDEAS project which he said would assist his government to accelerate programmes targeted at youth empowerment, said the project would focus on collaborating with the state in the training of teachers to impact technical education knowledge which he said could not be driven by government alone but through collaboration with the private sector.

While reassuring the people of the state that he would live the state better than he met it in 2018, Dr Fayemi said he was glad that enrolment in all the six Technical Colleges in the state, which was barely 700 in 2018 is currently put at about 2,500, adding that this was achieved through constant sensitization and all round improvement in the colleges.

He also noted that the state would continue to promote sustainable development through the use of “our brilliant hands to keep pace with the dynamic technological trend in the world by helping to reduce the saturated labour market and escalated poverty rate of citizens.”

The Governor expressed his appreciation to the officials of the World Bank and the Federal Government of Nigeria for much of their developmental projects from which Ekiti State is a prime beneficiary.

Ekiti was one of the six states in Nigeria and the only state in the Southwest that is participating in the project.

“IDEAS is a World Bank assisted project that is designed to fill skill gaps at both the public and private sectors. Ekiti State is one of the six benefitting states. The facilities at the Government Technical Colleges at Igbara Odo, Ijero and Otun will be upgraded and modernised. In addition, all the teachers and instructors will be adequately trained, so also in the private sector, skills of Master Craft Persons and their apprentices will be enhanced.

“Many will recall that we launched the concept of Life Academics during my first term in office. We started the revamping of the Technical Colleges with the total reconstruction and equipping of the Government Technical College, Ado-Ekiti.

“In a bid to improve the state technical colleges, Ekiti State Government recruited seventy (70) teaching staff and fifty-five (55) non-teaching staff to improve productivity. Perimeter fencing of the colleges is ongoing. Attention must be drawn to the fact that the state has experienced over 300% increase in students’ enrolment into our technical colleges; from 700 in 2018 to 2505 in 2022. This was made possible through constant sensitization and motivational programmes of the government.

I am keeping faith with that sacred pact, even with renewed vigour.  From now till October 16, when I gracefully hand over the baton  to our Governor-elect, events like this will be commonplace as we continue in our quest to make life better for the generality of our people, and bequeath a formidable foundation for our growth and economic stability.” The Governor said.
