THE HISTORY OF ODUMOSA, THE POWERFUL HUNTER AND FOUNDER OF ERIN-ILE KWARA STATE.

THE HISTORY OF ODUMOSA, THE POWERFUL HUNTER AND FOUNDER OF ERIN-ILE KWARA STATE
OBALUFON statue

Erin-ile, an old Yoruba town was established around 1225 AD for example more than 878 years prior. History of Erin-ile goes back to the verbose return of Oranyan from Edo nation after his red hot military campaigns against the Igbos who were then annoying that piece of Oduduwa's reality.

Erin-ile is probably the most established town in the old Oyun Local Government Area, including Offa. Erin-ile town was established about a similar time as Ipee and the limit between these two was before the coming of Offa town. Solid oral custom and serious research agreeably spin the authentic cause of Erin-ile around one famous regal sovereign of Ife called ODUMOSA.

He was known to be an eminent tracker and marksman, subsequently his name "APAAYAN", for example a marksman who was presumed for his best games. As the fore-name recommend, Odu-mosa was additionally a faithful religionist and a figuring chief. He was a shrewd executive and appealling character. He was the grandson of lord OBALUFON of Ife. OBALUFON is the contracted from the OBA ILU IFE for example (The ruler of Ile-Ife), and Olufon its short structure implies OLU-IFE for example (the ruler of Ife).

He was an acclaimed skilled worker and the first to acquaint metal works with Ife. He is as yet being exceptionally venerated for that important commitment. Ruler Obalufon was ruling when his nephew sovereign ORANMIYAN drove his arrangement of military undertakings to Benin. Ruler Obalufon later kicked the bucket and sovereign ORANMIYAN who was the beneficiary obvious didn't return in time from the war front. In his nonattendance, lord Obalufon's child ALAIYEMORE was designated and introduced as the following Ife ruler.

From that point, sovereign Oranmiyan surfaced suddenly to Ife. Frenzy held everybody inspired by a paranoid fear of what might and could be the response of such a fierce military legend to his life aspiration being so run by his counsin's climb to the seat which he (Oranmiyan) had constantly desired. In such a disrupted and unsure circumstance, ODUMOSA who was the immediate child of lord Alaiyemore thought of it as foothardy to sit tight in Ife for ORANMIYAN's response.

He immediately chose to stop Ife so as to get away from the conceivable anger of Oranmiyan. It was everybody's conviction that whoever incited Oranmiyan welcomed searing war. Odumosa set off with a huge unforeseen of devotees including his child ALAWODE AREBIOPE and his stepbrother, ruler ALAPA. He conveyed with him enough supplies of essential needs. he brought various valuable fortunes from the castle. Among such were beaded crowns, glorious clothing types, regal staff (EDAN OBALUFON), Obalufon's celebration silver crown, set of strung coral dots, the way of life of Obalufon, Ifa prophet, war types of gear, arms and ammo, (for games and self preservation) and a puzzling clarion horn for collecting his adherents at whatever point they dispersed looking for games and food or were abandoned. He depended particularly on the horn which he likewise used to give war or harmony signs and headings of next developments to his supporters.
Outskirt of Erin-ile

Like patriarch Abraham of the Jewish history who on divine requests left his folks in the land Haran for an obscure goal. Odu-mosa left Ife on Ifa prophet's guidance for the open wide world without learning his genuine goal. He was a man of confidence, without a doubt a man of dauntless boldness, never terrified of slopes or wildernesses, dry land or overwhelmed planes. He continued endlessly nudging his contingents to walk and head quick in the opposite direction from a potential pursue by Oranmiyan. He told his kin "E RIN E RIN; E RIN" for example WALK FAST, WALK FAST, WALK FAST. The name ERIN was later suffixed with "ILE", which signifies the terminal finish of the trek on Ifa prophet's heading to frame the compound name ERIN-ILE.

After a long spell of meandering and meandering aimlessly before they arrived at that goal, they ended and rested in various spots, as ERINMO or ERIN-ITADOGUN for example an intersection place where they laid on seventeenth day of their trek and made places of arrangement fronds. A major market was set up at the intersection settlement. When Odumosa left, a portion of his devotees stayed behind and settled for all time in ERINMO. Other spot of visit included ERIN-OKE, ERIN-IJESHA, which are all now remarkable towns in Osun State. At Erin-ile, Odumosa met three trackers; Olowe, Afolumodi and Gbaagba, who received him as their first ruler when they was aware of his august status.

At a last visit before Erin-ile, Odumosa, Odumosa overlooked his clarion horn. When they returned for it, it had sunk and shimmering water, presently the stream Owo has begun spouting out of it. It was at this crossroads that his stepbrother, ruler Alapa isolated from him while Odumosa moved west ward, Alapa moved east ward. Alapa now settled Eku-Apa now in Irepodun LGA of Kwara State.

An a lot later settlement of Odumosa's replacements are Erin Papa, established on an open meadow by the thirteenth Elerin of Erin-Ile in rebellion of Alimi, the Fulani Jihadist. Erin Papa was found in Osun State and is presently called Erin – Osun. Around 1907, Elerin olaojo chose to profit to Erin-Ile for discontinuance of threats by the Jihadist. A few residents tailed him while some picked to remain. Erin_osun is likewise a major toen and she imparts close proclivity to Erin-ile. Indeed, the two towns are "twain" towns.

Aside from towns and settlements set up legitimately by Odumosa or his replacements, there are additionally families who have blood or social proclivity with Erin-Ile and are living in different networks. They can be perceived by their surname (oriki) regardless of whether they are in Ibadan, Abeokuta, Ilorin, Oshogbo, Ilesha, Ogbomoso or Offa. Such names incorporate, "More, Mosa" (from Alaiyemore and Odumosa), "Omo Elerin Mosa", "Omo Elewe Ladogba", "Omo Obalufon L'Erin", "Omo Abinuwole" alluding to Olowe who sank alive and "Omo Abiowe" again alluding to Olowe star war pioneer of Erin-Ile. Some outstanding Nigerians with such names incorporate Ali Agboguleri; Saka Pena, Adegoke Adelabu (Penkelemi) and Oba Gbadamosi Adebimpe all in Ibadan, the balogun group of Iragbiji, the Duro Ladipo family in Oshogbo, the Ige family in Ijeshaland spreading to Ibadan, the Toki family in Offa and on the maternal side, the Olugbense imperial family in Offa and so forth.

By and by, Erin-Ile is in Oyun LGA of Kwara State and was the base camp of the Local Governement when it was first made in 1980. For odd reasons, the central command was moved when the Federal Military Government re-made the L.G.A. in 1990. Erin-Ile is on the southern-most edge of Kwara State and offers limits with Offa, Ilemona, Irra, Eku-Apa, Ipee, Igosun all in Kwara State and Oyan and Ila - Odo in Osun State. She is overhauled by current enhancements. A yearly celebration impossible to miss to her is the Obalufon celebration named after their begetter in Ile-Ife.

THE STORY OF OBALUFON, THE LONGEST KING OF ILE-IFE THAT REIGN FOR 400 YEARS ON THRONE

THE STORY OF OBALUFON, THE LONGEST KING OF ILE-IFE THAT REIGN FOR 400 YEARS ON THRONE
OBALUFON STATUE

In the history of all 50 Ooni that have reigned in Ile Ife before the present king Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, Obalufon Ogbogbodirin is said to have lived longest, thus the Ogbogbodirin sobriquet after his name which literary means one who lived for a very long time.

The statue of Obalufon Ogbogbodirin, the Ooni who lived for centuries.
Ooni Obalufon Ogbogbodirin is said to be the fourth king of Ile Ife. He is said to have reigned for centuries and later transfigured into a metal figurine as he aged and eventually become a deity.

But there is more to Obalufon even in death. He has become a prayer point for every Ooni that have reigned after him. The present Ooni once revealed that “Obalufon Ogbogbodirin holds the spiritual classified codes for Ooni‘s long reign.”

We gathered that every Ooni that has reigned after Obalufon Ogbogbodirin have gone to where his figurine his, knelt before it and prayed to live as long as he had lived before they are crowned. It was learnt that Obalufon shrine till date plays an important role in the installation of every Ooni after him as Aare crown is always blessed in his shrine before it will be placed on the head of the new Ooni.

Though Obalufon has a groove where he is being worshipped, Ooni Ogunwusi brought him closer to the people when he ordered that an image of him be erected in the Enuwa palace where he lives.

The History Of Calabar You Must Know.

The History Of Calabar You Must Know.
....the home of business, capital of Cross River State.

Calabar, formerly Old Calabar, town and port, capital of Cross River state, southeastern Nigeria. It lies along the Calabar River, 5 miles (8 km) upstream from that river’s entrance into the Cross River estuary. Settled in the early 17th century by the Efik branch of the Ibibio people, the town became a centre for trade between Europeans on the coast and Africans farther inland. Fish, cassava, bananas, palm oil, and palm kernels were traded at Calabar for European manufactured goods, and the town also served as a major slave-trading depot. Duke Town and the other Efik settlements near Calabar—Creek Town, Henshaw Town, and Obutong (Old Town)—were forcibly united into the loosely knit state of Old Calabar by the Ekpe secret society, which was controlled by the towns’ merchant houses.

By the mid-19th century, after the waning of the slave trade, Old Calabar’s economy had become based on the export of palm oil and palm kernels. After the chiefs of Duke Town accepted British protection in 1884, the town, which was called Old Calabar until 1904, served as capital of the Oil Rivers Protectorate (1885–93), the Niger Coast Protectorate (1893–1900), and Southern Nigeria (1900–06) until the British administrative headquarters were moved to Lagos. It remained an important port (shipping ivory, timber, and beeswax, as well as palm produce) until it was eclipsed by Port Harcourt, terminus (1916) of the railroad, 90 miles (145 km) west.

The name Old Calabar (as distinguished from the port and river named New Calabar, 120 miles [193 km] west) was originally given by 15th-century Portuguese navigators to the African inhabitants of that part of the Gulf of Guinea coast. This region was the main source of the Calabar bean, a poisonous bean that, when ingested, markedly affects the nervous system.
Calabar international seaport

The completion of roads from Calabar to Arochukwu, Ikom, and Mamfe (in Cameroon) and the Calabar–Itu–Expene highway (which provides easy access to the rest of Nigeria) contributed to Calabar’s initial importance as a port. The port still exports some products, including oil, natural gas, palm produce, timber, rubber, cocoa, and piassava fibre. The town has a sawmill; rubber-, food-, and oil-palm-processing plants; and a cement factory. Wood carving is a traditional art of the Efik, and the town’s artisans sculpt ebony artifacts for the tourist market in Lagos.

Calabar has long been an educational centre. Its first church school, established by the Rev. Hope Waddell of the Free Church of Scotland in 1846, helped influence the Ekpe secret society to pass a law (1850) prohibiting human sacrifice. The University of Calabar (1975), a college of technology, a teacher-training college, and numerous secondary schools are located in Calabar. Pop. (2016 est.) urban agglom., 895,000.

From 1725 until 1750, roughly 17,000 enslaved Africans were sold from Calabar to European slave traders; from 1772 to 1775, the number soared to over 62,000. Old Calabar (Duke Town) and Creek Town, 16 kilometres (10 mi) northeast, were crucial towns in the trade of slaves in that era. HMS Comus, as part of the British blockade of Africa against the slave trade, sailed into Duke Town in 1815, where she captured seven Spanish and Portuguese slave ships. African-American writer and slave John Jea came from the area. A small mulatto community of merchants was located there that had links to missionary and other merchant colonies in Igboland, Lagos, and across the Atlantic.

The city was the home the first social club in Nigeria, the Africa Club[citation needed]. It hosted the first competitive football, cricket and field hockey games in Nigeria. Among the city's firsts were the first Roman Catholic Mass (held at 19 Bocco Street, Calabar – 1903) and the oldest secondary school (Hope Waddell Training Institution – 1895) in eastern Nigeria.[citation needed] The school later graduated Nnamdi Azikiwe, who was elected as the first President of Nigeria.

The city has several museums (including the Slave History Museum), a botanical garden, a free trade zone/port, an international airport and seaport, an integrated sports stadium complex, a cultural centre, one of the most prominent universities in the country – the University of Calabar, a slave history park and several historical and cultural landmarks. It also has several standard hotels, resorts and amusement parks. The former Liberian warlord Charles Taylor lived in the old colonial palace in the city, under an agreement that led to the end of his country's civil war, before fleeing extradition to Liberia in March 2006.

The Tinapa Resort, a development by the Cross River State government, lies to the north of the city beside the Calabar Free Trade Zone.
The Cross River State Annual Christmas Festival held every year attracts thousands from within and beyond Nigeria. The festival, includes music performance from both local and international artists. Other annual events include the Calabar Carnival, a boat regatta, fashion shows, a Christmas Village, traditional dances and the annual Ekpe Festival.

Calabar features a tropical monsoon climate (Köppen: Am) with a lengthy wet season spanning ten months and a short dry season covering the remaining two months. The harmattan, which significantly influences weather in West Africa, is noticeably less pronounced in the city. Temperatures are relatively constant throughout the year, with average high temperatures usually ranging from 25 to 28 degrees Celsius. There is also little variance between daytime and nighttime temperature, as temperatures at night are typically only a few degrees lower than the daytime high temperature. Calabar averages just over 3,000 millimetres (120 in) of precipitation annually.

Calabar has three principal landlord kingdoms, namely the Qua Kingdom of Ejagham (Ekoi)/Bantu origin, the Efut and the Efik Kingdoms. The Qua Kingdom has the Ndidem of the Qua nation as the Grand Patriarch, the Efut have the Muri munene as the Grand Patriarch, and the Efik Kingdom patriarch is known as the Obong.

Before the colonial period, Calabar, originally known as Akwa Akpa, was a kingdom with the City of Calabar as the site of government. Calabar has three different monarchs, the Obong of Calabar as the ruler of the Efiks and the Ekpe secret society as the stool on which the Obong of Calabar sat. The Ndidem of Calabar is the ruler of the Quas and paramount ruler of Calabar Municipality which is the seat of government. The muri munene of the Efuts who is the ruler of the Efuts and paramount ruler of Calabar South.

Calabar people are mainly people from the old Calabar province – Calabar South, Calabar Municipality, Akpabuyo, Bakassi, Biase, Odukpani and Akamkpa, but as commonly used in Nigeria, the term "Calabar people" could also refer to the indigenes of Greater Calabar as well as the people of the original South Eastern State of Nigeria who are at present the people of Akwa Ibom State and Cross River State.

Calabar is the headquarters of the Eastern Naval Command. The city has a new model school, Nigerian Navy Secondary School, situated in Akpabuyo, about 10 minutes' drive from the airport. This new school complements the existing Nigerian Navy Primary School and Naval Officers Wives Association Primary School, both situated at Ikot Ansa Calabar.

Ekiti: Kayode Ojo's Suit, The True Account.

Ekiti: Kayode Ojo's Suit, The True Account.
...Describing the Sodeinde story as misleading.
The Kayode Ojo Campaign Organisation (KOCO) has reacted to a story in the social media credited to one heritage news blog and written by one Gbenga Sodeinde, describing it as total false and representation of what transpired in the court room.

The organisation, in a statement titled: EKITI: KAYODE OJO'S SUIT, THE TRUE ACCOUNT and signed by its Media aide, Alhaji Deji Aiyelabowo was released to newsmen on Monday in Ado-Ekiti.

Describing the Sodeinde story as misleading, the group noted that it has its representative, Gbenga Ogedengbe in the court room who gave the true account of what transpired.

Ogedengbe account has released according to the statement reads: "I was personally present in the courtroom at the Federal High Court, Ado Ekiti, on Friday, the 22nd day of July 2022, where the case of Engr Kayode Ojo challenging the APC party candidature of Mr Biodun Oyebanji was being heard.

"I was emotionally disturbed when I discovered that a false report of the proceeding that I saw online was credited to an online media practitioner, Mr Gbenga Sodeinde.

"Sodeinde, certainly was not anywhere around the court, but most  likely, he had relied on the information gathered from some people, who do not know the difference between 'plaintiff' and 'defendant'.

"But had the good privilege of financial packaging through their longtime romance with people in power."

Sodeinde had reported that Kayode Ojo, who was one of the aspirants that contested the party primaries said he won the  last APC governorship primary in Ekiti State based on the result which he saw on the social media.

"That story was not only a falsehood, but an hypocrisy of the highest order. When has seen things on social media become a social stigma or object of derision?

"In the contemporary world, there is no discussion under the sun that can go without the mention of social media. So, if social media was ever mentioned inside the court room, how has that translated to the illusionary statement of the writer?

"News related to JAMB and WAEC results are read on social media. News of politics and government activities are daily posted on social media.

"Sensibly, what should have been the issue  is not that something was posted on social media or not, but the authenticity/reliability of the source that posted which was most expected of the counsel to the defendants to ask for, had it been they prepared for defence.

"While waiting for the conventional electoral authority, in the Nigeria of today, election results from each polling unit are often uploaded by party agents for the public to cross check in the event of fraud by the supposed neutral electoral umpire.

"So, would Kayode Ojo not have relied on the report of his party agents during the controversial primary election, either it was posted to him on the social medial or not? Social media has become a social archive depending on how it is used.

"Nevertheless, no one can rule out here, that the social media story might be to distract the general public from focussing on how the first, the second and the third defendants (APC, Oyebanji and INEC) danced naked during the court proceeding."

The organisation therefore faulted The report by Sidenide, asking that, "the falsehood presentation of the report did not mention how their counsels were said to have been out of time in all their responses to the petitions filed by Kayode Ojo.

"How Kayode Ojo's lead counsel, Mr Alex Izinyon (SAN) has endlessly been citing orders of the  court, electoral act 2022, and the constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria, which they said was supreme to all other rules, in reinforcing his argument regarding why the court should declare Kayode Ojo as the winner of that controversial APC primary.

"Sodeinde did not remember to say how the Oyebanji's lawyers had monotonously been citing, over and over, ordinary guideline of a political party in a case which centres on governorship position

"I for one, that case was my first time of witnessing how a defendant would go to court without a single witness in a manner which suggested an helpless concession of defeat.

"While Kayode Ojo himself, and his 6 witnesses were fully on ground in the court, Biodun Oyebanji and and his own witnesses were nowhere to found.

"Rather, they were asking the court for an extended date to argue for a motion for an extended date, to start preparing for their defence, not even to bring their own witnesses, which hitherto according to the current electoral act, they supposed to have filed on or before 22nd of April, 2022.

"As we read here, in a case that has been initiated since February 9, this year, no single witness has come out to testify and contest the claim of Kayode Ojo that the said primary election was manipulated in favour of Mr Biodun Oyebanji, who is now the governor elect.
"No witness has shown up to counter Kayode's claim that the party's returning officer in all the 16 local government areas were either past or present appointees of Mr Governor, the alleged godfather of Oyebanji.

"No withess in the court to debunk Ojo's claim that the supporters and the members of the campaign council of  Biodun Oyebanji also served as local government returning officers who collated the result, on the strength of which Oyebanji was declared the winner."

However, the organisation representative said that no witness was present in the court room to challenge the principal's (Kayode Ojo) claim that some of his supporters were harrassed and hounded out of some voting centres. The organisation advised that Sodeinde should have been more professional in his story, rather than offering himself to write falsehood which definitely can not help the course of his paymaster.

NOTABLE MARKET'S IN IBADAN MEETROPOLIS

NOTABLE MARKET'S IN IBADAN MEETROPOLIS

The acts of buying and selling is predominantly a fundamental tool for sustainable economic growth and development. Pertinent to this, the reason for availability of markets in countries, states and locality are not far fetched

Market is simply a place where buyers and sellers meet for transaction of goods or services. Everybody loves shopping, but when it comes to Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State Nigeria, the inhabitants take it to another level. Being a very large city, Ibadan is dotted with a numbers of notable markets which have continued to draw in thousands of buyers daily.

The cosmopolitan nature of Ibadan city coupled with its large population has attracted many sellers and farmers. The prices of goods in these markets in Ibadan are considered cheap by many compared to relatively expensive markets in states like Lagos, Nigeria. I would reveal to you some of these markets in Ibadan and where to locate them.

Ojudu meets Oyebanji, tasks Gov- elect on Productive Economy, Youth Engagement, inclusive government.
The Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Senator Babafemi Ojudu, has urged Ekiti State Governor-Elect, Mr Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, to run an inclusive government, even as he said he was convinced Oyebanji has the capacity to reposition the state.

Senator Ojudu, who stated this during a meeting with Oyebanji in Abuja at the weekend, said one of the major tasks before the incoming Governor is to motivate and facilitate productivity of the residents.

The Ado-Ekiti born politician also commended the Governor-elect for his ongoing consultation with Ekiti leaders and stakeholders, describing the move as not only strategic, but a confirmation of Oyebanji’s level-headedness and a leader with a remarkable listening ear.

Ojudu said: "Oyebanji has capacity and the required experience to reposition our dear state. We will keep praying for him while we hope he makes a difference. Ekiti people are long-suffering. They need a change. We hope on him,"

To make a remarkable difference in office, the Senator Ojudu urged Oyebanji to focus on the people by addressing their needs, pointing out that there is so much poverty in the land.

"There is need to sincerely address poverty in our state. He will have to motivate the people to be productive and ensure the youths are gainfully employed. When I say gainfully employed, I do not mean government jobs, I mean as farmers, food processors, in ICT, in the trades, as artisans and builders. No community develops where most of the people are idle.”

On the significance of reaching out to stakeholders in Ekiti before taking over the mantle of leadership, Ojudu said the move was good and commendable. He urged the Governor-elect to reach out to all stakeholders, pick their minds and be inclusive in his administration.

Earlier, Oyebanji had explained that his visit to Senator Ojudu, like other prominent Ekiti elite, was necessary considering his contribution to the state and national development in the area of journalism, activism and political development.
Oyebanji said the ongoing consultation with Ekiti Stakeholders and leaders within and outside the state would continue till his inauguration in October, adding that regular consultation with stakeholders will be a major feature of his administration's public policy.

"We'll go home and reconcile with aggrieved members," Ekiti APC Stakeholders task themselves.
Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Ekiti rose from a meeting on Saturday 23rd July, 2022, with a resolution to embark on genuine reconciliatory moves with dissenting members in their different local governments, wards and units in the spirit of "no victor, no vanquished," even as the party coasted home to victory in the last governorship election in the state.

The meeting was the first of its kind since the 18 June 2022, when APC resoundingly beat other parties to come top at the poll and its governorship candidate, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, BAO, emerged the Governor-elect.

Speaking to the gathering of the party leaders, the State Chairman of the party, Barrister Paul Omotoso, thanked every member from the top to bottom who contributed in one way or the other to the success of the party who contributed to the success at the poll. He said that since the election was over and "our party" had won with a landslide, there was no reason to continue to bear any grudge against anyone who might have worked against the party's interest during the election. Rather everyone should go back home and draw the aggrieved ones closer and back to the party.

"It is a no victor, no vanquished situation for our party and we are grateful to everyone," he said.

The party chairman however warned members not to let of their guard or make any move that will polarise the party 8n the state. He assured that there was no division among the party leaders at the top, saying that from Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo, the first democratically elected Governor of the state, to Dr. John Kayode Fayemi, the incumbent, to Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, the incoming, the leadership of the party is one and whole.

"If you are a bonafide member of our party, then see the leadership as one and all the leaders as inseparable. There is only one caucus of APC in Ekiti, and that is the one with Otunba Adebayo at the top, followed by Dr. Fayemi and then the Governor-elect, Mr. Oyebanjiand then the other notable leaders of the party."

Members from the three senatorial districts, who reacted to the Chairman's message also affirmed the need for the party to unite and welcome back those who had left in anger back, and that it's now, more than ever, that they need everyone in their midst.

The stakeholders express their gratitude to God almighty, the State Governor, Dr. Fayemi, his wife Erelu Bisi Fayemi, the Deputy Governor, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi and everyone who played one role or the other in ensuring their victory at the poll.

In his response to all contributions, Deputy Governor of the State, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi, who stood in for the Governor, Dr. Fayemi, thanked everyone, dedicated the victory to God, asked for unity among members, asked them to go after those who might have left the party in anger and most importantly, asked party men and women to remain steadfast and focus on the remaining elections ahead, to ensure a resounding victory.

"We have the presidential election ahead as well as as those of the national and state assemblies. It is only when our party come out victorious in those polls, that our incoming Governor can be able to recommend deserving members into appointive positions at the national level."

Also present at the meeting, the first of its kind since the 18 June Guber election, were the Governor-elect, Chief Mrs. Monisade Afuye, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Funminiyi Afuye, his deputy, Rt Hon. Hakeem Jamiu, State Deputy Chairman of the party, Hon. Sola Elesin, one-time Deputy Governor of the State, Surveyor Abiodun Aluko, former State Chairman of the party, Chief Jide Awe and a host of other leaders of the party.

HISTORY OF ILE-OGBO TOWN, OSUN STATE.

HISTORY OF ILE-OGBO TOWN, OSUN STATE.

Ileogbo is the headquarters of Aiyedire Local Government in Osun State, Nigeria. It is situated midway between Ibadan and Osogbo, the capitals of Oyo and Osun State. Ibadan is about 44 km to the south of Ileogbo while Osogbo is about 42 km to its north, Oyo 40 km to its west, while Gbongan and Ife are located to the east of the town.

The name Ileogbo comes from an old Yoruba folk tale that the people in this town had a very long life span. Ileogbo means the land of the old. The settlers in this town used to have a saying "Ile Ogbo mi ni mo de yi" (meaning the place where I will live till I am very old), and the name was later shortened to Ileogbo.

Ileogbo is one of the famous Yoruba land with its famous cultural activities and tradition,
Ore (ileogbo Ilu ore, omo arepo panda) said to be the protector of ileogbo citizen both home and abroad. Ore festival comes once a year and it attracts people far and wide. Ore tree is as strange as finding a lion in a hole dug in the ground that harbors a rat. When you account for the mother of whom her child's biography is shoddy, its sound unbelievable. But such is the feature of the cradle of a sacred Oore Tree located in Ileogbo.

Ileogbo, inarguably is a product of Ore Tree. The tree, because of its peculiarity, is a pointer to the seating of Ileogbo, the headquarters of Ayedire Local Government in Osun State. The tree life span is uncertain as the first settlers are younger than Ore tree.

The tree was located circa 1840 subsequent to a spiritual consultation with oracle by Kuseela, the only surviving Prince of the war between Fulani and Ileogbo in 1822. Ileogbo was checkmated by Fulanis in 1822, thus, the former site became desolated. After the clash between the troops of Alaafin and the Fulanis in Osogbo in 1840, tranquility returned to the affected Yoruba towns, Ileogbo inclusive. The development triggered Kuseela, consulted an oracle and was divined that he stops, with his entourage where ever he finds a tree tied with white cloth. It was divined that he, with his people shall organize a prosperous kingdom.

Tradition had it that the tree is manned by a male (Baba Abore) and a female (Iya Abore) appointed on the advice of the king. One of the past Iya Abore from Olukoun's compound nicknamed the tree Alhaja Jabaru. This name is not unconnected with the female spirit the tree is said to shelter. Some traditionalists considered Ore as a strong protection against any havoc in Ileogbo. The tree does not shed its leaves under its shade.

Eegun festival (masquerade) it is festivity that draws people from other towns and cities to Ileogbo.

Igbo festival is a must see tradition where young and old, men and women, boys and girls loyal to Igbo festival will be flogging themselves publicly in the city center.

Ileogbo has some private and public secondary schools like Luther King’s college ileogbo, Community High School, Ileogbo, African church grammar school, kuta/ileogbo others are Royal ambassador international college, ileogbo, Omoloye group of schools, ileogbo, Daarul-Hikmah Islamic School, Glorious group of schools, ileogbo and lots more

Aiyedire is a Local Government Area, one of the thirty Local Government Areas in Osun State, Nigeria. Its headquarters is located at 1, Col Ogunkanmi Road in the town of Ileogbo at 7°47′00″N 4°12′00″E. Hon. Adeboye Mukaila Oladejo had been its Chairman since 2017.

Aiyedire Local Government Area is divided into four districts namely Ile Ogbo, Kuta, Oke Osun (Alabata), and Olupona. For efficient administration purposes, Aiyedire South, a Local Council Development Area (LCDA) was created out of Aiyedire and headed by Hon. Olufemi Idowu.

This Local Government Area is located in the western axis of Osun state. It is bounded by Ejigbo, Ola Oluwa, Irewole, Ayedaade and Iwo Local Government Areas. It has an area of 262 km² and a population of 75,846 at the 2006 national census. It features two distinct seasons, the dry and rainy seasons. The average temperature of Aiyedire is put at 28.5° centigrade while the humidity of the area is estimated at 60 percent. Wind speed across Aiyedire is put at 10 km/h.

Farming is the predominant economic activity. Cocoa is a major cash crop cultivated in the area solely or in combination with other agricultural crops such as coffee, cassava, palm oil, kola nut, maize, pineapple and yam.

Trade is an important feature of the economic lives of the people with markets such as the Alaya main market and the Mosun market providing access for the exchange of a wide range of goods and services. Hunting and crop cultivation are other important economic enterprises engaged by the locals.

Sacred Idi-Oore Tree:
Sacred Idi-Oore Tree in Ileogbo

The tree is famed a pointer to the seating of Ileogbo, the headquarters of Ayedire Local Government in Osun State. The tree life span is uncertain as the first settlers are younger than it. The tree was located circa 1840 subsequent to a spiritual consultation with oracle by Prince Kuseela, the only surviving monarch from the war between Fulani and Ileogbo in 1822 where they were defeated. In 1840, as tranquility returned, it triggered Kuseela, to consult an oracle for a new abode as the former settlement was desolate. The oracle divined that he stops, with his entourage where ever he finds a tree tied with white cloth. It was divined that he, with his people shall organize a prosperous kingdom. Prince Kuseela contacted the tree, weeded its surrounding, settled near at Akinmoyero`s compound and invited people from far and near and subsequently multiplied to about eighty two compounds with numerous suburb.

Tradition had it that the tree is manned by a male (Baba Abore) and a female (Iya Abore) appointed on the advice of the king. One of the past Iya Abore from Olukoun`s compound nicknamed the tree Alhaja Jabaru. This name is not unconnected with the female spirit the tree is said to shelter. Some traditionalists considered Oore as a strong protection against any havoc in Ileogbo. The tree does not shed its leaves under its shade.

Cultural activities:
Anlugbua is celebrated annually. Anlugbua Akindele, a famous hunter and warrior was a progenitor that led his people from Orile-Owu to Owu-Kuta, where they are presently settled. He left Orile-Owu because he was not given the chance to reign after his father’s passage. His younger brother was made to ascend the throne, which angered him. So, he left and later settled in a place called Ikutamiti (I evaded death). It is Ikutamiti that was shortened to Kuta. After a reign of 300 years, he decided to sink to the ground, instead of dying physically. The spot where he entered into the ground is where is annually converged to celebrate. The place is now a local historical site.

The shrine is a sacred groove about three kilometres away from the town and inaccessible by vehicle and tucked inside the Anlugbua forest. Some of the rites are the sacrifices of live ram and dog in addition to pounded yam and okro/ogbono soup at the shrine. Persons who wear certain tribal marks called keke are forbidden from entering Anlugbua’s.

Afenifere Group Declaration For Peter Obi: An Embarrassment to the Region to Foil Internal Disunity- Says Omoluabi Team Alliance SC&P Group.

Afenifere Group Declaration For Peter Obi: An Embarrassment to the Region to Foil Internal Disunity- Says Omoluabi Team Alliance SC&P Group.

Omoluabi Team Alliance Socio- cultural Group condemn in totality the comments of the Pan Yoruba Socio- cultural group for publicly endorsing the candidature of Mr Peter Obi through his new National Leader Pa Ayo Adebanjo few days ago. It is no more strange to some of us that the foremost Pan Yoruba Socio-cultural Group which is suppose to be a bonding agent and a rallying point for the Yoruba ethnic group worldwide is fast becoming a shadow of itself and seems to be loosing focus on the primary purpose for which the group was founded by the frontliners of the group who are no more.

Pa Ayo Adebanjo was seen making public the group' s support and declaration for the candidature of Mr.Peter Obi who is running for the highest office in the country on the platform of the Labour Party. This public declaration has been circulating on air and occupying media space in the last couple of weeks leaving a lot of Nigerians and the Yoruba people especially worried about this position of a highly respected socio-cultural group who now bath in old glory and has absolutely lost the genuine voice it was known for several decades ago. Yes individuals or groups have a right to show solidarity and support at this time as it pleases such groups but not a socio- cultural group like Afenifere who understands the gravity of such action at this crucial moment.

To Omoluabi Team Alliance Socio-cultural Group, Pa Ayo Adebanjo's decalaration for Peter Obi is best described as a regional embarrassment, a misplaced priority, misinformation and misrepresentation of a region they claim to speak for. It is very pertinent to rebuke and reject in totality such act, action and statements that is best perceived to have grave implications on the chances of the emergence of our son Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a prominent leader and a committed nationalist who to many of us in the younger generation is seen to be a unifying figure, a pathfinder and the only personality still standing head tall to create that needed representation, unity of purpose and bond for the entire southwest and by extension the Yoruba people across borders.

Afenifere under Pa Ayo Adebanjo has not gotten it right on all fronts since his take over of the administration of the group from Pa Reuben Fasoranti. One sometimes will wonder if this is the same Afenifere that once paraded highly respected men, elderly ones who were known for fighting aggressively and unapologetically against any individual or group who wants to throw banters at the youruba people. Even in the face of imperfection as no individual is perfect, It is not an exaggeration to say that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains the best candidate for the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria come 2023 going by his antecedents, sincerity of purpose, good leadership style, political footprints viz- a-viz his hunger for the southwest integration since 1999 till date.

Fortunately for us in the southwest and the entire Yoruba land, we have this one man as a great asset who is best defined as a re- incarnated Awolowo whose thirst for the development of his region was unrivalled.

Omoluabi Team Alliance Socio- cultural Group want to categorically state that Mr. Peter Obi and the Labour Party should not allow himself and his party be deceived through the pseudo declaration of Pa Ayo Adebanjo for his Presidential bid come 2023. Such statement and declaration is misinforming, misrepresenting, gross insincerity, condemnable and baseless as it is not a declaration made on behalf of the southwest and the Yoruba people worldwide. We shall continue to support our own son, the Presidential flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu not because of his party affiliation but because of his contribution, competence, capacity, love and passion for national unity and development viz-a -viz providing directions politically to the entire southwest against all odds since 1999 till date.

We shall not tolerate any individual, group or ethnic affiliation who intend attempting any act capable of thwarting an assured victory and rare opportunity at our doorstep to produce the next President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Omoluabi Team Alliance Socio- cultural and Political Group however advise that the elderly stateman, Pa Ayo Adebanjo and other highly respected members of the Afenifere Group we all grew up to know as children should have a rethink, repent and come to reason with us on reasons why they must throw their weights behind the man of the moment, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. They should set aside personal grievances, acrimony, long time feud and clash of interest that may have existed in the time past. Our elders know too well that no house divided against itself shall stand.and that an injury to one is an injury to all which is entrenched in the ideology and principle Afenifere Group was known for even in the days of the founder Chief Obafemi Awolowo. The group was privileged to have been mentored by the late sage who mentored a handful of members of Afenifere Group both dead and living. We in Omoluabi Team Alliance Socio- cultural and Political Group have our own ideologies and principles which first recognizes the need to advance, promote, defend and protect the interest of our people, the Southwest and the entire Yoruba nation across the globe.

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains the best option for Nigeria now going by his enviable track records and this we pray gets divine backing by the gods of our land. We wait to respond to counter comments, and reactions that will be met with actions and responses from our Group if need be since this is enough signal to anyone who may wish to know that Omoluabi Team Alliance Socio- cultural and Political Group is a relevant voice in state, national and international matters and has absolute freedom to express such in befitting manners devoid of hate and slander.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF JALUMI WAR

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF JALUMI WAR
Brought To You By: Comr. Olamide Akinwumi James.
09068215955

The Jalumi War, also called the Battle of Ikirun, was a battle that took place on 1 November 1878, in the North East of present-day Osun State, Nigeria. It was part of the larger conflict named the Ibadan War. The forces of Ibadan victorious in detail a force of rebellious Yorubas including soldiers from Ilorin, Ekiti, Ila and Ijesha. Despite the victory, fighting continued in the years that followed until the Ilorins were finally defeated in 1897.

The Jalumi War took place in the hilly country of the Northeast of Osun State in the area that includes Ikirun, Iba, Inisa, Mesin Ipole (the present Imesi-ile), Okuku and Eko-Ende. It was one of the series of civil wars in Yorubaland between 1793 and 1893.

In June 1878 word came to Ibadan that the Ilorins had joined the Ekitis and Ilas in the alliance against them. The Ekitis and Ila, now joined by the Ijeshas, laid siege to Ikirun. The Emir of Ilorin sent his forces, led by Ajia, to join his allies around Ikurin. They suffered a setback at Otan, but were reinforced and joined the siege. When news reached Ibadan they were unable to send help until their army returned on 14 October 1878 from an expedition to Meko. The Balogun Ogboriefon was told to march to the aid of Ikirun with five days.

Commanders and leaders involved in the war:
1. Fabunmi of the Ekiti
2. Adeyale of Ila
3. Ogunmodede of Ijesha
4. Ayimoro of Ijesha
5. Ajia of Ilorin
6. Balogun Ajayi Ogboriefon of Ibadan
7. The Osi Ilori of Ibadan
The Ilorin soldiers

It was the peak of the rainy season, and many Ibadan soldiers drowned crossing the Oba and Osun rivers. The Balogun had to share command with the Osi Ilori, a jealous and incompetent man. On 30 October 1878 the Ikiruns had been pressed back and fought within their town walls. The Balogun of Ibadan entered the town the next day with his relief force. The attacking forces at this time were in three groups. The Ilorins under Ajia were to the northeast, near the Ikirun farms. The Ilas under Prince Adeyale and the Ekitis under Fabunmi were camped together nearby. The Ijeshas were to the east, led by Ayimoro and Ogunmodede, encamped in the small town of Iba.

On 1 November 1878 the three besieging forces advanced against Ikirun. The Balogun left the Osi Ilori and his followers with the Ikiruns to fight the Ilorins, Ekitis and Ilas, while he took his soldiers to fight the Ijeshas. The first group was defeated, their leader the Osi Ilori was taken alive, and the rest retreated to Ikirun. When the Balogun heard of the failure, he did not panic, but through clever maneuvers defeated and ruthlessly destroyed the Ijeshas. He then returned, defeated the Ilorins and drove them out of their camp, but not before they had killed the Osi. He then defeated the demoralized Ekitis and Ilas. The victory was complete.

The people of Ofa heard that the Ilorins were in retreat, and cut the bridge across the Otin River in their rear. The Ilorins were pushed into the flooded river by the victorious Ibadans, and thousands of men, women and horses drowned. Jalumi means "drown in the river". The battle is so named because of the drowning of the forces of Ilorin.

War charms were used by both sides in the Ibadan war, and some thought that the Muslim charms were more powerful than the traditional Yoruba ones. According to a verbal report given one hundred years later, an actor named Ojelade from Inisha who lived in Okuku impressed the Balogun of Ibadan with his magical powers. He and his troupe were asked to help the Ibadan forces against the rebels. It is said that Ojelade disguised himself as a white man, which made the enemy flee since "they could not fight the ghost of a white man." The members of the troupe could not be hurt. They stretched out their arms, and the bullets were caught in their clothes and fell to the ground, where they were collected and shot back at the enemy. Through these and other actions the troupe helped with the victory. A war cannon monument marking the end of the war is located at the Odo Otin River bank, Inisa, Odo Otin LGA till today. Despite the Ibadan victory, the Ijebu refused to ally with them and the Egba would not give them passage to the coast. The Ekiti formed a military confederation called the Ekiti Parapo commanded by the Ogedengbe of Ilesha, and formed a tighter alliance with the Ijesha. The Ibadan found themselves fighting on three fronts. Okuku, which had been under the control of Ilorin, now came within the control of Ibadan, which posted a representative to the town. However the region continued to be harried by the Ilorins. This continued after the British had negotiated peace in 1893, and ended only after the British Captain Bower destroyed the main Ilorin army near Otan using rockets in 1896. Ilorin itself fell the next year.

Oyebanji Pays Condolence Visit to SDP Stalwart, Akogun Bunmi Ogunleye over mother's Death.

Oyebanji Pays Condolence Visit to SDP Stalwart, Akogun Bunmi Ogunleye over mother's Death.
Ekiti State Governor-Elect, Mr Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, on Monday visited the Ogunleye family in Ikole Ekiti over the death of their mother, Princess Rebecca Omoyelede Ogunleye, who died recently at the age of 86.

The deceased was the mother of Akogun Bunmi Ogunleye, a stalwart of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), and Aremo Tunde Ogunleye, a former Commissioner in the state, and a leader in  the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In his condolence message, Oyebanji described the late community leader as a mother to all and a progressive matriarch who lived her life promoting love, unity and humanity.

"Though mama's death is painful but we thank God for a life well spent. Thank you so much for everything. May your sweet soul rest in peace," he wrote.

Reacting to the visit, Aremo Tunde Ogunleye, said the visit by the Governor-Elect was not unexpected, considering the long years of relationship between the Oyebanji and Ogunleye families.

"The condolence visit by the Governor-Elect over the passing of our mother is expected, given the ties between the two families. We have been family friends for over 25 years and have never allowed politics to define our relationship. Today, I'm a member of PDP, my brother is a leader in the SDP, while the Governor-Elect is in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), but we have never allowed that to determine how we relate.

" When he was the Secretary to the State Government, I was close to him and he too was close to me when I was Commissioner. Perhaps the beauty of it all is that almost all members of the two families are equally friends. However, we are very appreciative of his coming and the honour given to our family, despite his tight schedule at the moment,"

Also speaking Akogun Bunmi Ogunleye, who revealed that the family would keep the Governor-elect abreast of the burial plan as it unfolds,  said he was delighted adding that the visit had further demonstrated the importance of  politics without bitterness.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF EJIGBO TOWNSHIP, OSUN STATE, NIGERIA.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF EJIGBO TOWNSHIP, OSUN STATE, NIGERIA.

Ejigbo community is a major Yoruba town in Osun state of Nigeria. It is about 40kilometers from Oshogbo, the capital of Osun state. The 1963 Nigerian census estimated its population to be 46,000 with a landmass of 25square kilometers. Populated to be 132,641 as at the 2006 cenus.
According to oral history, Ejigbo is an ancient settlement founded by Akinjole Ogiyan, abbreviation of Ogiriniyan, right after the old Oyo. Ogiyan has a rich pedigree been a descendant of Oduduwa and the ruling family of Ife. Together with his brothers, particularly the Akire , the founder of Ikire-Ile, they left Ile- Ile with Oranyan(oranmiyan), the founder of old oyo,to establish their own towns.

The fact that ogiyan, is from Ile-Ife is confirmed by Ejigbo Mekun’ the name of a market in Ile-Ife. Akinjole settled many other villages spread around yorubaland. He is the paramount ruler and prescribed authority over many, if not all of them.

The following towns and villages ,among others were under him, Ika, igbon, olosin ologede, inisa, aato, ijimoba, afake, ilawo, inisa edoro, isundunrin, olia, ado ori-oke, ayegunle, idigba, ibogunde, songbe, olorin osuntedo and iwata.

Around 1835, Ejigbo came under Ibadan, when the Ibadan army moved to protect Osogbo from Ilorin invaders. In fact, detachments from Ejigbo assisted the Ibadan army in the ijaye, jalimi, and kiriji wars between 1860 and 1866.

Ajayi ogboriefon, balogun and leader of the Ibadan army in the jalumi war circa 1860 and 1878 was a native of Ejigbo from the Akala compound and his mother, Alagbabi was the daughter of an ogiyan of Ejigbo. In 1934, when the then government retioined to the terms of the 1893 treaty which recognized Ibadan’s independence and gazettes the bale and divisional council of Ibadan as an independent native authority, five district Obas including the ogiyan were made members of the Divisional Council.

The traditional markets are the ones in the centre of the town, and few others in some other quarters. There is now a traditional markets fixed for every Saturdays as is the case in many Yoruba towns. It is situated at the centre of the town, in front of the palace and it is also the most favored for night shopping and other social activities.

In the past, it was used as recreational centre for the town, and therefore, was attended by many who even had nothing to buy or sell.

Ejigbo did not escape foreign influence especially, the nineteenth century events that permeated Nigeria. Its people and culture changed with the flow. For example, many people have been converted to Islam and Christianity. The Baptist, being the dominant Christian mission in the town, now has a number of churches and it was through its efforts that the people of the town established the first fully fledged secondary grammar school; the Ejigbo Baptist high school followed the Asarudeen Grammer School. Ejigbo is tolerant of its diverse faiths. This is demonstrated in the joint celebration annual Orisa Ogigan festival.

Farming is the traditional source of economy in Ejigbo. It is based on production of food crops, such as yam, cassava, cocoyam, potato, maize, guinea corn, cowpea and cash crops like cocoa, palm oil, kola-nut, coconut and varieties of fruits. Trading in textiles and imported goods is also common in the town

Ejigbo indigenes reside in Ivory Coast, Togo, Benin Republic and some other Francophone Countries thereby giving them the opportunity to speak French in addition to Yoruba, their mother tongue. They also occupy key positions in some of these countries.

The traditional title of the paramount ruler is Ogiyan of Ejigbo.

Ejigbo is home to the College Of Agriculture, Osun State University.

HISTORY OF EDE IN OSUN STATE

HISTORY OF EDE IN OSUN STATE
A statue of Timi Agbale, a hunter and warlord

Ede is a town in Osun State, southwestern Nigeria. It lies along the Osun River at a point on the railroad from Lagos, 112 miles (180 km) southwest, and at the intersection of roads from Oshogbo, Ogbomosho, and Ife. Ede is one of the older towns of the Yoruba people. It is traditionally said to have been founded about 1500 by Timi Agbale, a hunter and warlord sent by Alaafin (King) Kori of Old Oyo (Katunga), capital of the Oyo empire, to establish a settlement to protect the Oyo caravan route to Benin (127 miles [204 km] to the southeast), a purpose similar to that of other Nigerian towns. Nearby towns include Awo, Iragberi and Oshogbo.

Its traditional ruler is known as the Timi Agbale, popularly referred to as Timi Agbale Olofa-Ina. According to myth, he is the man whose arrows bring out fire.
The present Ede was established by Timi Kubolaje Agbonran around 1817 along with his siblings: Oyefi, Ajenju, Arohanran and Oduniyi, all being the descendants of Lalemo. The former Ede is known as Ede-Ile.

The founder and historical head of Ede, Timi Agbale Olofa Ina, was one of the great lords leading the Yoruba Army at that time of both internal and external aggression around Yoruba land. He was in the Upper Cadre of the military chiefs. The first Ede settlement, established as a military outpost in the sixteenth century by the Oyo authorities had to be shifted to the other side of the Osun River round 1818-1819. One account of the movement had it that when the Afonja, the Aare Onakakanfo, based in Ilorin who betrayed the Alaafin as he joined hands with the Fulani Jihadists to declare Ilorin independent of Oyo control and went further to organize invasion of Yoruba towns like Osogbo, Ede, Ejigbo, Ilobu etc, all in the Province.

The old Ede settlement had to be shifted for strategic reasons. It was this account of incessant invasion that made the security of the town precarious that forced the people to relocate to the present site of Ede. There is no doubt that if Ede was to be safe from Fulani attack it needed a neutral barrier to shield her. The man who had this political foresight was Timi Kubolaje Agbaran.
However, another account said Timi Agbale had two sons, Lanodi. After the death of Timi Agbale, the monopoly of the throne by Lamadu and his descendants forced Lalemo’s decendants to move away from Ede Ile to their own town which is the present Ede.

After leaving Ede Ile for the Omo Lamodis, they consulted Ifa oracle, who told them to continue their exodus until they crossed a big river-the Osun river. On crossing the Osun River, the Ifa oracle asked them to proceed until they finally settled at a point a little across the Osun river.
By the time they settled in the new Ede, the eldest brother (Oyefi) was said to be too old and died. So, the next most senior son, Agbonran became the first Timi of the present Ede. The other brothers: Ajeniju and Arohanran, took their turns to ascend the Timi stool. By the time it got to the turn of Oduniyi, the old man had died and his younger son, Abibu langunju, ascended the throne. It is on record that despite his many travail, he remained the longest serving Timi, having reigned for 60 years before he died at a ripe age of 90 years.

But there was no controversy that during his reign, Timi Agbale Olofa Ina rose to the Head of Yoruba Army in Ibolo Province of the Oyo Empire, saddling him with the responsibility of warding off any from external invasion, especially the Fulani Jihadists.

History recorded Timi Agbale Olofa Ina as a very powerful warlord who was described in Samuel Johnson’s History of the Yoruba from the Earliest time of the Beginning of the British Protectorate, as “an archer, noted for his deadly arrow who more than justified his appointment as Aare Onakanfo by the Alaafin”. At the peak of his reign, it was almost a sacrilege to address Timi Agbale without the appellation “Olofa Ina”.

Between 1824 and 1840, Ede was involved in the various wars of resistance fought to repel the Fulani’s invasion into the Yoruba territory. Among the notable wars fought were: Ogele and Mugba Mugba wars; the Ede-Ogbomoso war’ among others. And not until 1835 when Alaafin Oluewu appealed to all Yoruba leaders/Chiefs to sink their differences and come together as a people from the same origin that peace began to reign in the land. He essentially warned them to be curious of the danger in any disunity in their ranks because of the rampaging Fulani Jihadists who had established a strong foothold in Ilorin and were ready to expand more into the cost region of the west.

At the time, the reigning Timi was Bamgbaiye Ajeniju who was reputed as the richest Timi that ever reigned in Ede. Timi Bamgbaiye Ajeniji was said to have such a large number of goats and sheep in his garden that he lost count of their figure. The animals were said to be so many that they ate up all the green grass in the large garden. He was in the saddle during those turbulent period in Yorubaland.

In essence, what one is trying to draw out is the strategic position of Ede and Its rulers in the scheme of things in Yoruba land. When loyalty was failing, in this face of personal and individual ambition, the loyalty of the founding fathers of Ede never failed the Yoruba Nation. This was amplified by the resolve of Timi Bamgbaiye Ajeniju who promptly responded to a seized-fire in the intra- Yoruba.
