The minister of works, David Umahi, said President Bola Tinubu has approved funding for the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano, Lagos-Ibadan highway and the Second Niger two bypass projects. 

Umahi said the approval would remove the financial constraints hindering the three projects while asserting federal government’s commitment to eliminating all obstacles hindering the road infrastructure revolution it has initiated.

The minister made the disclosure during the inspection of the Lafia Bypass Road and dualisation of the 9th Mile (Enugu)-Otukpo-Makurdi road project in Makurdi, Benue State.

He was accompanied to the project site by the governor of Benue State, Father Hyacinth Alia.

The 260-kilometer project, examined during the inspection, is managed by China Harbour Nigeria Limited and financed jointly by the Export-Import Bank of Nigeria (85%) and the Federal Government (15%) traversing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nasarawa, Benue Logo, and Enugu States.

The project is expected to be delivered in 48 months. 

The Minister said: “I want to thank Mr. President that about three days ago, he approved work should immediately commence in many sections of the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano.

“it is cheering news for me, we were having some problems with funding but the President has solved the problem and directed for the immediate release of funds so that the road will continue.

“The same thing with the Lagos-Ibadan highway and the second Niger bridge two bypasses”. 

The Minister, who had earlier inspected the Mararaba-Keffi reconstruction and expansion project, commended the Benue and Enugu State Governors, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia and Peter Mbah respectively for setting up taskforce committees to provide security on the sites of the project.

He also disclosed that the request for certain inclusion in the road project by the Governor of Benue State, Fr. Alia would be accommodated, saying, We are from Abuja to Mararaba to Keffi, that is an ongoing project of dualization and it is 43km.

“It is being done with NNPC funding, whatever impeded the funding, graciously, God lifted it and the President has approved in all zones of the country, that the job should go ahead. 

“We noticed that there is a lot of hold-up around the beginning of the project, so I have asked them to study it because the essence of governance is for the convenience of the people. 

“So, if we have a lot of hold-ups there, people can’t plan. So we have directed that we should have a flyover at the location to ease it. 

“So, the road from Keffi to Makurdi has been completed and we are going to toll it. 

“But for some modifications, we have asked the China Harbour Engineering Company to provide the service station, where we can have our trailers parked, vehicles parked, you can go for snacks, fuelling and so on but they are not there and they must be there before we start tolling the road. 

“The plazas are not beautiful and I told them to make them beautiful like we have in China. 

“This one is 260km and that is 229km completed, some sections are not good and I have directed them to go back to work, the first 5km, but the rest are beautiful. 

“Where a job is not good, you must go back and where it is good, we commend you. 

“This route is to be done on asphalt but what I prefer is concrete all through but it is like they are defeating me. 

“The flyover you are requesting, we are going to incorporate it. 

“If you are building a road and the people are being inconvenienced or we finished it and it does not solve the problems, we have done nothing.  

“So that flyover is very critical and it is very good that we are here. We had to do that because of the passion for your people and the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr. President.

“From the beginning of the road to here, it must be done on concrete. So anywhere we have bad terrain we will scope it for concrete. We will put the middle of the divide of the two carriageways in the middle of the existing route.  

“So, we will minimize a lot of compensations.

I would like to thank you and the Enugu State Governor for setting up a task force to assist them in terms of security and other things.

“The project is financed by China Exim Bank, so the money is there and the project is in dollars, so it will not vary that much.

“We want to assure you that from today, things will be happening, you will be happy with the progress. 

Governor Alia, in his remarks, commended the President for the people-centered policies and programmes he has embarked on since he assumed office.

He said: “We are pleased that you are beginning the second phase of Abuja-Keffi-Lafia-Ninth Mile road. We are very excited that you have already incorporated the prayers we presented to you. We thank Mr President for his thoughtfulness and good heart for the common masses. 

“He is someone who doesn’t want to see people suffer. From Abuja to Makurdi, the journey was four and a half hours but with this new road, it takes us three hours. That is going to help our business and help us to plan on plying on the route.

“We thank you for the pains you take for being here yourself.

“From this axis to Otupko, instead of taking one hour it will take you two hours, be rest assured of our continued support and collaboration which we need to do for the smooth running of the project will be done”. 

Earlier, while inspecting the Mararaba-Keffi highway, the Minister urged the contractor to redesign the project to accommodate a flyover at the Mararaba corridor.

According to him, the flyover would ease the movement of citizens that reside along the corridor.

Imo Governor Hope Uzodinma has assured the Federal Government is doing everything possible to bring the menace of crude oil theft and its attendant ills on the nation’s economy, to an end.

Uzodinma spoke to journalists at the State House, Abuja, after a meeting with Vice President Kashim Shettima. 

He informed he discussed progresses being made on the fight against oil theft with Shettima.

Uzodinma is the Chairman of the National Economic Council’s (NEC) sub-committee on Crude Oil Theft Prevention, set up in 2023 to review the existing architecture and make recommendations to stop oil theft and pipeline vandalism.

Over many years, Nigeria has lost billions of dollars in revenue to crude oil theft, which has thrived despite measures introduced by the government.

The Governor said: “I came to give him an interim briefing arising from the subcommittee on crude oil theft that I am chairing on behalf of NEC. So we had a very positive discussion. It’s still a work in progress.

“We are addressing it. At the end of the day, we are going to bring a final solution to this monster called crude oil theft.”

He also spoke on the importance of reconciliation efforts within the APC, citing the ongoing rapprochement between the party and the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano State.

He said the most important thing is the interest of Nigeria and the people, irrespective of political affiliations.

Asked how important Kano is to APC, he said “Kano is not only important to APC but to Nigeria, so it’s an important state for all of us.

“NNPP is a political party, APC is a political party. The most important thing is the interest of Nigerians and the people,” he added .

Rivers state governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed his gratitude to God, President Bola Tinubu and the minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for his triumph at the Supreme Court.

The governor declared his resolve to remain committed to the purpose for which he was elected as governor saying nothing would distract his governance.

Fubara restated his commitment to governance on Thursday while reacting  to the Supreme Court’s affirmation of his election as the governor of the state.

He said his triumph at the apex court had laid to rest the legal battles that added to the distractions his administration grappled with in the last eight months.

Fubara expressed gratitude to God for His help and to President Tinubu for his fatherly role concerning the internal crisis and the litigation against his election.

The governor in a statement signed by his special assistant, media, Boniface Onyedi, also extended gratitude to Wike, whom he described as his “Oga”, for all his support.

The governor called on everyone to join hands with his administration to build a competitive state that would be reckoned with as truly prosperous in all ramifications.

He said: “About an hour ago, the Supreme Court revalidated our mandate in the election. It is a victory for the entire State.

“It is important for us to note that we need this victory to consolidate the purpose of governance. Prior, we have had a few distractions here and there.” 

“And the good news that came to us this morning is a refreshing  strength that will encourage us to continue the good works in governance.

“We have a dream of making it a highly competitive State that will measure, if not up to Lagos but close to becoming like Lagos. We can only achieve this in an atmosphere of peace.

“So I am calling on everyone, not just on our internal issue but those members from other parties, the issue is settled, come and let’s build the Rivers State of our dream.

“We will continue to protect and provide the basic needs of governance to everyone who is doing business and who lives in Rivers State.

“We would address our State very soon on the victory, but for now, let everybody be happy that one elephant is out of the road, the other one, by God’s help, will be resolved amicably and the family will be one.”

APC Women Forge Spiritual Bonds for Governor Oyebanji’s Success in Office.

A group of women from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ado-Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State, have been holding monthly prayers for the success of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji and his wife.

The women, who are from the 13 wards of Ado-Ekiti, gather every last Thursday of the month at Mountain No.5, Eggroll Villa around Falegan in Ado-Ekiti to pray for divine support and protection for the governor and his family.

The prayer group, which started before Governor Oyebanji’s election in 2022, is a demonstration of their devotion and commitment to his leadership and vision for the state.

The women said they moved their prayer venue from Aso Rock along Ikere Road, where they used to pray, to the current location because the former place was turned into a hotel and relaxation centre, which distracted them from their spiritual focus.

They also recalled that during the election period, they relocated their prayer to Ori Oke Ezekiah in Erio Ekiti, where they prayed fervently for Governor Oyebanji’s victory, which they said was a result of their prayers.

Since then, they have not relented in their prayers, and have extended them to support his second-term ambition, which they said they are confident of, as they have received a revelation about it even before the general election in 2022.

One of the members of the prayer group, Mrs. Bose Adebiyi from Ward 11, said the monthly prayer is very important and impactful for the state, as it attracts God’s blessings and favour for the governor and his administration.

She explained that the women are loyal and faithful to Governor Oyebanji, and will continue to support him until he completes his constitutional eight years in office, and even beyond if he endorses a successor.

Mrs. Adebiyi also pointed out that they were not expecting any reward or compensation from the governor, but are only praying for him to continue his good work, especially in the payment of pensions and gratuities, which many of them are enjoying.

Another member of the prayer group, Mrs Oluranti, said that they were encouraged by some party leaders and members, who are also from Ado-Ekiti, to keep up their prayers, as they believe in their effectiveness and power.

She said that the women are proud of Governor Oyebanji, and respect him for his achievements and humility.

Mrs. Oluranti noted that the monthly prayer for Governor Oyebanji and his wife by the APC women from Ado-Ekiti is a show of their unwavering commitment and admiration for him and a sign of their profound impact on the state.
