Shameless politicians behind allegations of certificate forgery against Aiyedatiwa – Aide.

Shameless politicians behind allegations of certificate forgery against Aiyedatiwa – Aide.

The Ondo State Governor, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on Monday debunked a report that he was involved in a certificate forgery scandal, saying the report was the handiwork of some of his political detractors.

Aiyedatiwa was sworn in as the governor of the state on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, following the death of the former governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, who passed away in Germany.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Ebenezer Adeniyan, said in a statement that the report was false and a ploy to distract the governor.

In the statement titled ‘Certificates: the blackmailers are at it again’, Adeniyan described the allegation as false and mischievous

He said, “Our attention has been drawn to the mischievous plans by some political actors to embark on fresh unsubstantiated allegations against the Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

“After failing woefully with their attempts to paint the governor in bad light with the stories around the death of the former Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, these desperate elements have resorted to blackmail. The first of such is to use faceless groups and individuals to make allegations of certificate forgery against the governor.

“A governorship aspirant last night held a meeting with some individuals at a popular hotel in Akure where he gave the directive to those present to write stories alleging that the governor used forged certificates to contest election.”

Adeniyan added that the allegation was part of the plot allegedly aimed at discrediting the governor ahead of the governorship election in the state, saying the credentials of the governor were submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission during the last governorship election in the state.

“Mr. Governor contested on a joint ticket with his former principal in the 2020 governorship election and his credentials were duly submitted to the INEC and they are in public domain.

“Mr. Governor remains committed to delivering on his promises to develop Ondo State and will not be distracted by the shenanigans of shameless politicians and their cronies, “he submitted.

Aiyedatiwa, who became the governor of the state following the death of Akeredolu, recently promised to continue and complete all the projects embarked upon across the state by his former boss.

Before his death, Akeredolu transferred power to Aiyedatiwa via a letter to the state House of Assembly on December 13, 2023, when he was to proceed on medical leave in Germany.

Betta Edu: I’m not involved in N438m million contract – Interior minister.

Betta Edu: I’m not involved in N438m million contract – Interior minister.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has denied involvement in the N438.1 million consultancy contract between New Planet Project Limited and the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

It was reported that President Bola Tinubu, on Monday, directed the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ola Olukoyede, to investigate all financial transactions involving the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

Dr Betta Edu was the minister in charge of the ministry until the President suspended her on Monday.

It was reported that Edu came under criticism after a leaked memo on December 20, 2023, revealed that she directed the Accountant-General of the Federation, Oluwatoyin Madein, to transfer N585m to a private account owned by one Oniyelu Bridget, who the ministry claimed currently serves as the Project Accountant, Grants for Vulnerable Groups.

However, some sections of the media report that a company owned by the Minister of Interior was allegedly paid N438.1 million by Edu as consultancy services.

“The company, New Planet Project Limited was one of the numerous consultants awarded contracts from N3 billion given out by the suspended minister for the National Social Register contract,” it stated.

Reacting, Tunji-Ojo while appearing on Channels TV Politics Today, on Monday night revealed that he founded the company 10 years ago, but resigned from directorship in 2019 when he contested for House of Representatives.

The Minister of Interior, who described the report as shocking, said he is just a shareholder in the company and not involved in the day-to-day running of New Planet Project Limited.

He said “I have to say this, I saw it and I was shocked because the company in question was a company, where I was the director.

“About five years ago, I had resigned my directorship. Yes, I founded the company 10 years ago. In 2019 and when I got to the House of Representatives, when I won the election precisely, I resigned. I resigned 4th of February 2019 with a Certified True Copy of Corporate Affairs Commission as far back as 2019 to prove this.”

Tunji-Ojo, who said he came into public office knowing fully well that Nigerians would ask questions, charged relevant agencies to probe the contract processes.

He added, “I do not run the company. I don’t have any knowledge of the contract. I am not a signatory to any account. I am not a director of the company.

“The company is a limited liability company, which is a private entity. So if the company is a private entity, of course, I am still a shareholder, and to the best of my knowledge public service rule does not prohibit public officers from being shareholders.

“What public service rule says is that you cannot be a director, of which I had resigned about five years ago.

“I have no business with it, absolutely no business. Because I am not involved in the day-to-day running of the company. I do not pursue jobs for the company. I do not bid for the company. I am not a signatory to the company’s account. I am not involved.

“So the company is an entity on its own. If then, the question should be was the job given to the company? If the answer is yes. Then the question is did they follow due process? It is a yes. Did the company deliver on the job? If it’s a yes. Then number three is that they did deliver in line with the agreement of the contract? If it is a no, then they should be sanctioned by the book”.

The decision is part of a broader strategy aimed at safeguarding the rights of Nigerian consumers and strengthening key growth-enabling institutions to contribute more substantially to the nation's economy.

The affected Chief Executive Officers are Mr. Babatunde Irukera, who served as the Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), and Mr. Alexander Ayoola Okoh, the Director-General/CEO of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE).

The President's directive mandates the dismissed CEOs to hand over their responsibilities to the next most senior officers within their respective agencies. This transition period will be in effect until the appointment of new Chief Executive Officers.

The removal of Mr. Babatunde Irukera and Mr. Alexander Ayoola Okoh from their positions is effective immediately, according to the directive issued by President Tinubu. The forthcoming appointments to these critical positions will be closely watched as stakeholders await the next phase of leadership within the FCCPC and BPE.

Koto was subsequently banished to Rijau Local Government Area of Niger State.

The state governor, Alhaji Yayaha Bello, also appointed Alhaji Salihu Seidu, popularly known as SAS, to replace the deposed Ohimege.

“He is to be turbaned immediately to avoid vacuum,” Bello said.

The governor also announced the appointment of Alhaji Ahmed Anaje, who until now is the Ohi of Okenwen, as the new Ohinoyi of Ebiraland.

The governor’s address on the appointments delivered shortly after a meeting held with members of the state executive committee reads, “Having followed through our Traditional and Chieftaincy Laws, rules and regulations and all the due processes, we have come to the following resolutions.

“To this end, the stool is hereby reverted to “Obobanyi of Ihima” as the present occupant remains deposed.

“His Royal Highness, Boniface Musa, the Onu-Ife in Omala Local Government is to be suspended, indefinitely.”

The governor added that some decisions were taken on some stools after due intervention by the government to resolve the lingering controversies that have characterised the selection process.

“Finally, going by the high court judgment of 1998, which give full recognition to Ododo as bonafide child of Ita’azi the father of Ebira land and Uhuodo as a distinct district in Ebira land with equal rights as others, therefore, the stool of Ohi of Uhuodo
