Ekiti SUBEB Flags-Off Teacher Professional Development (TPD) Training Programme.

Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board has flagged-off the 2021/2022 teacher professional development 3-day training programme for Head Teachers from selected public primary schools in the State.

The training programme which is aimed at building the skills and capacities of education managers is expected to greatly increase the efficiency and effectiveness of both the teachers and the entire basic education sector in the State.

The Wife of the Governor, Dr Olayemi Oyebanji while flagging off the program in Ado Ekiti, harped on the importance of professionalism in the teaching profession stating that it was imperative for teachers to be trained and retrained on the modern teaching methods.

Dr Oyebanji said that there is undoubtedly a positive and significant relationship between continuous training of teachers and the quality of learning experience by the pupils.

Her Excellency stated that the teacher training programme is fitting and timely considering the fact that”the basic education system serves as the foundation upon which the building blocks of development and progress of a nation lies”.

She mentioned that even though a lot of resources have been committed to teachers development in a bid to improve the quality of teaching and learning outcomes in schools, the state of quality of teachers still leaves much to be desired considering the leading status of Ekiti among the comity of States in the education sector.

Dr Oyebanji said that to improve the status of the teachers in the State, Governor Biodun oyebanji has made the teaching-learning environment more comfortable and conducive through the rehabilitation and construction of school infrastructure.

Her Excellency also charged the participants to take advantage of the training programme to build their skills and capacities for efficiency and effectiveness and to also ensure they deploy the knowledge acquired during the programme in their classroom activities.

Also delivering a paper titled: “Leadership Style in a School Setting”, the First Lady analyzed different leadership styles which include Democratic, Autocratic, Laissez-faire, Transactional and Pseudo-democratic styles.

Stressing that although none of them is the “best” but school administrators should deploy each one as the situation demands.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Mrs Olabimpe Aderiye said that teachers are the last line of defense for children and that those in the teaching profession cannot afford to fail in this task.

“Ekiti State Government has made basic education free and compulsory for all children of school age” so all education stakeholders should ensure this is enforced.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Executive Chairman, Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board, Prof. Femi Akinwumi stressed that regular training of teachers is very important to success of Education in the State.

Prof. Akinwumi urged the participants to take advantage of the training and ensure they apply all knowledge acquired during this 3-day programme in their classroom activities.

He expressed confidence that the training would go a long way to sustaining the number one position the State attained in the last Teachers’ Day celebration, producing the best teacher in Nigeria.

Prof. Akinwumi appreciated the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) for their continued support and the synergy that has been established between them.

There were goodwill messages from the Lead Facilitator, Deputy Vice Chancellor, EKSU Prof. J.B Ayodele, UBEC Executive Secretary, Dr. Hammid Bobboyi and Ekiti State, NUT Chairman, Comrade Bamidele Daodu.
