The six House of Representatives members and three Senators from Ekiti State have reiterated their commitment to the rapid development of the state, just as they pledged their unflinching support for Governor Biodun Oyebanji administration.

Speaking on behalf of the Parliamentarians in Ado- Ekiti during a courtesy visit to the Governor in his office, the Senator representing Ekiti Central Senatorial District, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele and the Senator, representing Ekiti North, Senator Olubunmi Adetunmbi, assured Governor Oyebanji that the legislators would ensure they secure all necessary attention of the federal and international development agencies to the state using their individual and collective connections.

The Senators, who said they were in Ado- Ekiti to officially commiserate with Governor Oyebanji on the demise of the Speaker of the House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Funminiyi Afuye, as well as to give the Governor feedback on the assignments he gave them.

They called on Ekiti people within and outside the state to join hands with the Governor to move the state forward, describing Oyebanji as a proactive leader who leads by example.

The Legislators who said they were also in town to take up fresh assignment from the governor in line with their commitment to Governor Oyebanji's transformative moves to ensure the welfare of Ekiti people.

“I am in Company of my senior brother, distinguished Senator Olubunmi Adetumbi and we are here to further consult on what His Excellency started three weeks ago when he met with the entire National Assembly caucus comprising three Senators and six House of Representatives members and he gave us various assignments as to how we could join hands with the state government to pull all the human and financial resources available at the centre to Ekiti. 

“We know that it is something that means so much to the Governor and he’s taking it very seriously and after he held this meeting with us, he had been in Abuja twice to follow up at different MDAs and so for us this is something that means so much to him and he is leading by example in that regards. We could not but key into this aspiration and vision and part of what we are able to do today is to review and see where we stand and give him report of some of the assignments he gave us and take fresh assignments as we go back to Abuja so that we can easily liaise with our colleagues to know that the good works continues, Senator Bamidele said.

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji on Friday led other dignitaries including the immediate past Governor of the state, Dr Kayode Fayemi; Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Otunba Niyi Adebayo and Ondo State Deputy Governor, Mr Lucky Ayegbatiwa, to grace the burial of the late Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Funminiyi Afuye in Ikere-Ekiti.

The remains of the late Speaker proceeded in a motorcade from Ado-Ekiti, the state capital to Ikere Ekiti on Thursday after a special valedictory plenary session and lying in state ceremony at the State House of Assembly Complex.
In his sermon, the Bishop of Anglican Diocese of Ekiti State, Rt. Rev’d Olusola Ajayi, who took his text from the Book of Ecclesiastes Chapter 1 verse 2, stressed the need for everyone to live an impactful life in view of the inevitability of death. He urged the congregation to always take a cue form the lives of people who lived exemplary lives.

The Clergy affirmed that nobody brought anything into the world and nobody will take anything back, hence, he urged everyone to live in the fear of God and serve in the purpose of God for their lives.

Rev’d Ajayi who urged the children of the late Speaker to emulate their father’s selfless service to the community, state and the country, also prayed for the widow, Mrs Titilayo Afuye and the children.

Governor Biodun Oyebanji, in an interview with newsmen shortly after the funeral service held at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Ikere Ekiti, described the late Speaker as a loyal and decent man who gave his life to humanity.

The Governor added that the late Rt. Hon Afuye was a consummate lawyer and principled politician who worked tirelessly for the sustenance of democracy in Nigeria and ensure cordial working relationship between the executive and the legislative arms of government in Ekiti.

“Hon. Afuye was a consummate lawyer and highly principled politician. He was a very loyal and decent man. He worked tirelessly for the attainment of democracy in this country. We shall miss him, but we thanked God for his life. Mr Oyebanji stated.

The deceased’s eldest son, Mr Oluseye Afuye, thanked God for the impact his late father made in his community and in the lives of the people of the state. He also expressed the appreciation of the family to the state government, Governor Oyebanji, and former Governor Fayemi for their love and support for the late speaker.

Members of the State Executive Council, members of the Assembly and several prominent politicians, speakers of state assemblies and heads of institutions also attended the burial ceremony.

The late Rt. Hon Afuye who took over as Speaker of the State Assembly on June 6, 2019, died on October 19, 2022. He was aged 66 years.

Other dignitaries at the event include the state deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye; Ekiti State first Lady, Dr olayemi Oyebanjii; former first lady, Erelu Bisi Fayemi, former deputy Governors – Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi, Prof Modupe Adelabu; and Surveyor Abiodun Aluko; Senators Bamidele Opeyemi, and Olubunmi Adetunmbi, Hon Femi Bamisile and Deputy Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon Hakeem Jamiu were also in attendance.

The City Boy Ambassadors (CBA), a Socio-Political group in Nigeria and Diaspora, Ekiti State Chapter set to inaugurates its Working Committee for the actualisation of the presidential ambition of the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The inauguration is scheduled to hold on Thursday 17th November, 2022 at De-Bliss Tit Hotel Back of Alade Filling station Awedele bye-bye, Ado-Ekiti State.

A press statement released by the Movement’s Director of Media and Publicity, Comr. Olamide Akinwumi James, and jointly signed by  Amb. Yinka Akinlua, Ekiti CBA Director and Engr. Rasheed Adewumi Omo-Imam, CBA National General Secretary, said the group was set up to mobilize support across the town's in the state for Tinubu ahead of 2023 general election.

The statement read: “Our core objective is to galvanize support across the state for the enthronement of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu presidency in the coming 2023 elections.

“We firmly believe in his ability to drive the Nigerian state. We believe that he has the experience and exposure to resolve Nigeria’s myriad of problems which only a good manager like him can fix.

“It is expected that with the emergence of Asiwaju as the next president of Nigeria, the country has got solutions to all problems.”

The group Leaders disclosed that the Movement would spread its tentacles to all the sixteen 16 local government areas and tows in the state.

Candidate of All Progressive Congress for Ekiti South Federal Constituency I, Air Vice Marshal Adeniyi Ojuawo (Retd) Tuesday met with APC leaders in Ekiti South West Local Government, in Ilawe, in preparation for the imminent 2023 general elections.

AVM Ojuawo thanked the leaders for the cooperation and warmth he has received from them so far. According to the candidate 'it is worth mentioning in a meeting like this that I appreciate your sense of organisation in this local government, each time I visit. I have come this time to listen to you as your candidate and would-be representative by the grace of God come May 2023. it is important we discuss as a family, Ojuawo Added.'

Responding, the Chairman of Ekiti South West Local Government, Honorable Richard Apolola, aka Sikira, commended the respect AVM Ojuawo has for the party hierarchy and members, and assured the candidate of the support of the local government in his bid for a seat in the lower chamber of the national Assembly. 
'Sir,  these are my people that will deliver  in the next election as we did for BAO. However, I implore you to build on it and live up to your words by not jettisoning us after your victory. I advise you have the contact and establish relationship with these people for good reward and robust relationship onward, Hon Apolola admonished. Also Mrs Mary Faje, former Senatorial Women Leader charged AVM Ojuawo to be more accessible and operate open door policy in his engagement with the people for his popularity to continue soar.

Another party leader, Mr Adeniyi Adedara, advised AVM Ojuawo not to panic about Ekiti South West, 'we are very reliable and we'll live up to your expectation, just ensure your people deliver their units and wards in the coming election'. He said.

Mrs Banke Onileowo, Vice Chairman, ESWLG emphasised that the voting strength of the local government cannot be pushed aside in Ekiti South Constituency 1, 'we take every election serious and committed to our party candidates at all levels. Please the place and role of women are very critical in the entire electoral process, I will want you to deal with them through their identifiable leaders in order for the work to be easy for you and the party'.

In Addition, Mr Kolawole Genge, the former Chaiman of ESWLG, urged the leaders in attendance to focus on how to win the elections for now, asking the candidate to make his campaign team more inclusive to accommodate the various interests in the constituency. 

Other leaders who spoke at the interactive meeting included Mr. Festus Ojo, the Chairman of Wards Chairmen, Ekiti South West Party Chairman, Mr. Festus Olajide and Hon Yemi Alatise, GM EKSCDA 

In his response, AVM Ojuawo thanked them for their suggestions and candid advice. He expressed his delight at the family-like and frank nature of the discussions. He said with the contributions made by everyone he was assured that Ekiti South West really meant business and victory would be attained.

A former Minister of State for Works, Senator Dayo Adeyeye has assured Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji of his support and cooperation to enable him deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of the State.

Prince Adeyeye during a courtesy visit to Governor Oyebanji on Thursday in his office in Ado-Ekiti, described the Governor as a true Ekiti person with vast experience in governance. He also described as lauded the actions of the Governor in his early days in office.

Adeyeye, a former Governorship aspirant in the state also enjoined Ekiti people to cooperate with Governor Oyebanji in the interest of the development of the State, noting that he had started well judging from the steps he had taken in his drive to reposition the state for greater heights.

“My call is to the people of Ekiti state to support Governor Biodun Oyebanji, he is the one that God has chosen for this time and all of us in politics are working towards the development and progress of Ekiti State. So, he is at the helm of affairs at this moment, I will enjoin all Ekiti people to please cooperate with him to move this state forward”.

Receiving the former Minister, Oyebanji revealed that he had always studied Adeyeye as a political mentor with enviable commitment to the advancement of the course of the common Ekiti people.

The Governor promised to continue to seek his advice and other of well -meaning Ekiti leaders on the best way to develop the State.

Oyebanji also commiserated with Prince Adeyeye over the demise of his friend and late Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Funminiyi Afuye.

“One thing I know about Senator Adeyeye is that he may like me but if I don’t do well he will call me and tell me, so they are putting me on my toes and I will continue to do the right things to ensure the advancement of our state.

“He is my political leader and he has been a mentor for years, unknown to a lot of people, Senator Adeyeye has been someone I had been under-studying politically and I have learnt a lot from him. He is committed to the development of the state and anything that will lead to the advancement and the course of the common people, you’ll find him there.” the Governor said.
